I'm just wondering if any of you out there have tried the South Beach diet or Dr. Phil Diet and your thoughts. I tried SBD for 2 days and was absolutely famished...... not to mention, sweaty, weak etc. My problem with these diets is that I think I burn more calories than average - my job involves walking all day and I go spinning/ weight lifting at least 3 times per week. Any of you tried South Beach and started in Phase 2 to allow at least some bread/fruit? I've also looked at Dr. Phil which sounds a bit more reasonable. I just don't get how eating eggs and bacon everyday can possibly be healthy Very frustrating - have 10 more pounds to lose after losing 42 post- baby. Thanks for letting me vent...... Anyone??

I've been working on loosing weight for the last 1.5 yrs now and have successfully lost 60lbs (size 22/24 to a sz 16) and am still loosing..... my opinion is that if you don't look at loosing weight as a 'diet'(baaaad word!!) and instead look at it as a way of life and work on changing your eating habits instead, increase your water intake to 8-10 glasses a day and get regular exercise (cardio till you loose then work on weight training to tone up) you will have more success in keeping it off.

If you read Dr Phil's book it's basically all about that. A healthy way of life.

I lost most of my weight by following the WW point system and then I just switched to exercise and healthy eating watching portion sizes!

You need to ask yourself if you could adopt the SBD way of eating for the rest of your life b/c if not then chances are when you switch back to your old eating habits you will gain the weight back.

Just my opinion for what it matters!!

lmk,

Have you been over to the WISH board? If not head on over there because there are many people who are working to stay healthy by different eating/exercising programs. Someone will be able to answer your questions for sure. There are lots of Canadians over there as well, so that helps with food availability etc.

I've been tempted to try the Atkins, SB but I know that I couldn't live my life that way forever so I use the tried and true WW program. It easily fits into your everyday life.

Check us out!!

I've had great success with WW too! I've thought about doing Atkins at one time but I don't think I could give up breads and sweets and still be happy. WW teaches you to eat in moderation, that way you can still have a little of everything you love and still lose weight :p

DH only did a few days in Phase 1 on SBD because of crippling headaches, and then went to Phase 2. He's still complaining that all his pants are falling off him :D

It's true that the drawback to SB is it is a lifestyle thing, but it's not that hard to live with. There are days when I forget to eat carbs at all, and I'm on Phase 2. As a lifestyle, it's certainly an easier change than going vegetarian. You still eat carbohydrates, but you eat whole grains, and natural sugars, instead of refined.

Of course, YMMV. Consult a physician etc. It sounds like you have a really healthy lifestyle anyway. Maybe your body thinks it needs those 10 lbs.

Congrats on taking off the baby weight, by the way.
