January 27, 2017 (Part 4)

The One...The Only... PURPLE WALL
It was time for us to visit Dumbo the Flying Elephant!

I sound like a broken record but again, we basically walked on Dumbo as well. We went on the right hand side Dumbo and we were handed little purple plastic cards by one cast member then handed them to another CM when we got on the ride. I’ve never done that before and I was curious why they did that. Maybe as a way for the CM’s to keep track of the number of guests that need seats per ride?

I just decided to try and take a picture of us with my DSLR and think it turned out so cute!

I always feel like I get so hyped for Dumbo and then it lasts for like 30 seconds and then it’s over. But we made the most of those 30 seconds by singing Moana songs and waving excitedly to all the people on the ground. We’re actually children.

Continuing with our theme of kiddie rides, we just popped on over to the Barnstormer!

I was so excited to do this one because I haven’t ridden it since my very first trip when I was 8! I used to absolutely hate roller coasters so this was a HUGE deal for me and I remember it being so fast and scary.

We got through the line pretty quick and even got to move up in line because a CM was looking for a group of two. So, we get on this ride, and I’m expecting it to be super fast and fun… and then I blinked and it was over. I literally turned to Rachel and was like “.... wait, is it over?”. THAT RIDE IS THE SHORTEST RIDE IN THE HISTORY OF EVER.

Isn’t that so funny how you remember something feeling like an eternity when you’re a kid and then when you come back as an adult it’s so different?

So anyway after that epic letdown, we decided it was about time to get some caffeine in our system. It was now a little after 9:00AM so we got 5 meet and greets and 3 rides done in just an hour. EMH people, they save lives.

We decided to take a detour on our way to Main Street through Tomorrowland! There was a CM handing out stickers and when we went to get one, he saw Rachel’s birthday button and stuck out his hand as if to shake it and said “happy birthday!” and when she went to shake it, he pulled his hand back and said “SIKE!”. Both of us were like: “Whaaat?”.

We kinda just awkwardly left after that and headed past Monsters Laugh Floor and made a left to the Tomorrowland Terrace.

Why did we go that way? Because it was time for me to meet THE FAMOUS PURPLE WALL.

If you don’t know, this purple wall has become a super popular background for pictures for among cool Disney-World-Social-Media-Famous people. I’m not even sure who started this trend but it’s actually fantastic because the lighting is always so good in that spot!

Here’s what you see with your back is facing the wall just in case you’re having trouble trying to place the exactly location of this famous wall.

We took a lot of fun spinning pictures and Boomerangs until we were finally satisfied. Then Rachel just had to snap a picture of the castle because this area has a pretty awesome view of it!

I'm glad you like Elena too! I can't wait to see her show, I love how Disney is trying to bring some diversity to princesses!

I know, man it was terrible. Also, being the over confident Canadian that I am, I was like, pfft, I'll be fine, I'll have long sleeved shirts (which I never wear even in winter around here) so no need to bring a sweatshirt. Boy did I regret that. I ended up buying two.

And yes, I can only hope they'll keep going down that road! I remember when we took our friends, they were a little put off by how white Pocahontas was when we met her. Jasmine very often also just looks like a reasonably tan white person. I get that there may not be tons of Native and Arab girls lining up to get hired at a theme park in Florida, but it's still kinda meh at times. Hopefully they won't try that with Elena - it's not like there's a lack of latina ladies in Florida.

Spot that lovely crane in the background? Who doesn't adore the Magic Cranedom?

Ah, the Crane. The most rare of Florida birds. We were actually puzzled for a moment when we saw it, we hadn't expected it to be present in late January, and then we realized they were probably still taking the lights off the castle. It's the prettiest sight in our night time MK Castle picture, with its nice glow and bright light

However, I still don’t think I would wait more that 20 minutes to ride it. While it’s pretty thrilling, it just goes by so quick that you can’t enjoy it.

Agreed. 7DMT is a fun ride, but not *that* fun. I would definitely not wait longer for it than I would for BTM or Space.

We were probably about 45 minutes into EMH and you can see how empty the park still was!

Morning EMHs for the win! Seriously, you can just get soooo much done during that time! I think during AK EMHs, I've ridden Expedition Everest 5 or 6 times in a row once.

Also, we spent like, 15 minutes looking for it last August all over Tomorrowland. We knew it was in Tomorrowland but that was all we knew. We went by Space, behind the Carousel of Progress, everywhere. Then we gave up and made our way to Main Street, and of course, there it was in all its glory at the Tomorrowland Terrace.

Haha, yeah, I'm from the North so when I saw high 50's and low 60's I was like "Heat Wave! I'm only bringing short sleeves and shorts". WRONG.

You definitely should try EMH whether you're alone of with a friend, it's just so great! It has such a different feel and is definitely much more chilled compared to normal hours

She did okay, she just had her grandma hold her the whole time and didn't want to face Ariel. She just looked really uncomfortable the whole time. Ariel did really well not pushing her to interact with her though, which I thought was a great job on her part.

Saving Money in Disney? Why, I Never!

We finally, headed around the Terrace and came out beside the Plaza restaurant and into Starbucks!

This should probably be the part of my TR that I explain that since Rachel and I are college students, we tried to do this trip as cheap as possible. For that reason, we opted not to do the Dining Plan because when I did the math, I knew we could eat so much cheaper than $40 a day (or is it $60 now for QS DDP? I'm not even sure). Sadly, this did mean that there were no snack credits ergo- no Venti Starbucks every morning.

Luckily, Rachel is the QUEEN of good deals and she told me about this rebate app called “Ibotta” and so after using that for a few weeks leading up to the trip, I got a free $20 Starbucks gift card which was the perfect amount I needed to get my caffeine fix every day! If she hadn't found that, I din't know what I would've done without caffeine in Disney.

We actually found some pretty good money saving tips when it came to food and other things so I’ll definitely be sure to share those as the TR progresses! I'm guessing some of you like to save money as much as me!

Partly because I’m just interested to know: every time I post a food picture, I’ll include how much it was and then at the end of each day on the TR I’ll tell you the total on how much spent on food that day. Place your bets now, people. How much Disney food do you think I could resist buying in a day?

As one could assume, Starbucks around 9:30AM was pretty busy. We didn’t mind too much though as this was the longest line we had waited in so far!

I noticed that they even had theming in the Starbucks with the cute china on the walls with the Starbucks Siren on it.

I also noticed the CUTESET little Mickey cupcakes in the bakery case!

When we got our coffee I just had to have a little photoshoot with it on this cute ledge. Sigh, I just love the Disney Parks Starbucks cups.

The CM that rung me up put Princess Aurora on my cup, I thought that was so cute! Rachel asked the CM if she could put Rapunzel on hers to match her Disney bound.

Rachel got a little sneaky shot of me taking pictures. Also- I just want to point this out theres a boatload of pixie dust on my head and not dandruff

Tall Cinnamon Dolce Latte: $4.79 (Technically, this didn’t count because I got the gift card for free but I’ll include the price anyway)

These cups are just so pretty that I feel bad throwing them away when I’m finished with it!

We had to leave the aforementioned cute ledge after being pushed by someone with their huge stroller that also wanted our ledge. Okay, then.
We just headed out on Main Street and fought through the crowd of caffeine deprived people and headed back to Tomorrowland. On the way we casually waved to the Mayor of Main Street USA he was so adorable! We were also called princesses by what looked like two Custodial CP guys. I mean, any day I get called a princess is a good day! Rachel and I were having an ongoing joke because I kept getting acknowledged as a princess and nobody was calling her a princess.

We were on our way to Tomorrowland because we were ready to head to our visit our second park of the day. We decided to pay the extra $24 and try out the new Express Busses. For $15 for one day or $24 for your whole trip (up to 7 days), you can use these VIP buses that transport you backstage from park to park so that you get there quicker and you don’t have to go through security when you arrive to your second park.

For both of us, this was TOTALLY worth the $24 especially because we only had 3 park days and we knew that this would give us more park time and be much less stressful. These buses don’t begin running until 10AM and it was about 15 minutes away from that so we figured we would go up to the booth and see if they would let us in. The entrance for the MK’s express busses is right beside Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin and the Buzz Lightyear meet and greet area. We hadn’t bought the passes yet because this isn’t something you can add to your MagicBands online or over the phone. So when we went up to the CM, she said we had to go to Guest Services in the Space Mountain gift shop and get it added to our bands. So we headed off in that direction

Hidden Mickey!

The CM was very nice and helpful and we got the pass put on our MB’s in no time! While Rachel was waiting for me to finish up with the CM, she went over to the ID Tag machine they had in the shop and made a tag for her new service dog puppy she’s going to begin training in a few weeks. She’s going to name him Flynn Rider. The tag came out so cute and it was only $12- not too bad!

We headed back over to the Express busses again and were walked backstage and got on the bus waiting for us.

We got on the bus with a dad and his daughter she was probably a little older than Rachel and I. While we waited to see if there were any other guests that were going to get on, we started talking to our bus driver. He was from England and was describing what part he was from and how he didn’t think he had an accent anymore. He was so great, he was giving us this little history lesson! If you've read any of my other reports, you know how much I love anything that is remotely related to England so I was loving that.

I'm a little apprehensive to share any of the photos I took "backstage" just because Disney is a little fuzzy on their rules about that. But I did get a picture when our bus was sitting at MK and realized that you're looking at the People Mover track!

After about ten minutes of waiting, the bus driver began to start driving and so we talked to the other two people on the bus with us. Yes, we just had 2 other people on there with us! Definitely a lot nicer than our bus ride earlier that morning.

The other people on the bus wanted to know if we were traveling by ourselves without our parents. They were actually very surprised when we said yes! This was an ongoing theme during our whole stay there. Nobody believed we were old enough to come without parents! But to be fair, we probably weren't acting like college students 99% of the time we were there.

Yes, it is definitely worth a try! The things they have rebates on were things that I already bought anyway so I really liked it!

They are so cute! After she made that tag we saw those machines everywhere, I didn't even realize there were so many. It kinda stinks that they don't offer the same designs in every park because when we saw the Mickey head with the EPCOT ball design on the back, we wished she had seen that one first!

January 27, 2017 (Part 6)

"Stop Being so Cute, Darn It!"
I honestly didn’t pay attention to exactly how long it took us to get to Animal Kingdom on the Express Busses. It did definitely feel faster than a normal bus and it was cool to get to see backstage. Our bus driver showed us the giraffe houses and we got a nice view of the Pandora construction in the distance. The coolest thing I saw was the fact that Disney disguised the cell phone tower as a giant tree to make it blend in better with the atmosphere.

As soon as the bus parked, we were greeted by a Guest Services cast member. We were around a bunch of backstage buildings for costumes and back entrances to Tusker House. In order to get into the park, we had to cross a little two-way street. At that point, we were met by yet another Guest Services CM who actually walked us a few hundred more feet into the park. The CM who walked us in was named Marcus and he was from Cape Town, South Africa. He was so hilarious and had the most amazing British accent. When we met him after crossing the street, he said: “They won’t let me cross the street. Not after what happened last week”. LOL. Then he was asking us what we had been up to so far that day. When he asked “Where are you guys coming from?” and Rachel said “Magic Kingdom!” and I was like “No, I think he wanted to know where we’re actually from...”. Haha, we all had a little chuckle.
In her defense, he worded the question so that it could go either way. Too soon, we had arrived into AK right beside Kilimanjaro Safari and had to say goodbye to Marcus.

We started heading in the direction of Expedition Everest, but I spotted my favorite little mural in Disney and I made Rachel stop and take my picture! I have no idea why but this is my absolute favorite wall art in all of Disney!

Then we passed the Tree of Life and I took Rachel down this little side path because it’s a great place to get a good shot of the Tree! There was a PhotoPass photographer down there who offered to take a picture and polaroid for us. She was on her DCP so I was talking to her about that. She was so sweet!

While we were walking, someone came up to us and complimented us on our backpacks! By the way- if you are just DYING to see what backpacks we had on, I posted a picture of mine on my PTR. You can find that by clicking in my signature or there's a link on the "Chapters" post at the beginning of this thread.

We finally found EE! Wow, AK just has so many amazing picture spots.

We tried to get a shot of the Polaroid but it was a little too exposed to show up.

While we were doing this, a girl stopped us and was asking us how we got our Polaroids to work because she could never get any of her pictures to show up. I think she was from Brazil but after she left, Rachel and I were like “Wow, she did SUCH a good job holding a conversation with us”. I can’t imagine trying to having a long conversation with someone in a different language. When she couldn't find the word to say in English she was able to recall a word that Rachel or I had just used. I was seriously impressed! Anyway, she was so sweet and I hope we helped her out.

I decided to pull out my vlog camera and update the vlog before we hopped on Everest. Rachel caught a sneaky picture! In case anyone was curious- yes, vlogging is a great arm workout

We had Fastpasses for Everest so we just basically walked right on. I don’t know if anyone else has this experience with EE but I always find that it’s so much scarier than I remember it being. I’m pretty sure you can see that on my face lol. I honestly jumped our of my skin when the Yeti tries to grab for you, haha!

After that thrill, we decided to head to DinoLand to use our next FP. We stopped on the bridge by EE to take some fun pictures. The girl who complimented us on our backpacks walked by and yelled “Stop being so cute, darn it!”.

Wow, what a picture of grace. Not.

After that, we passed by the theater that houses the Finding Nemo show and across from that is the theater for the Rivers of Light show that’s going to be starting this month! I LOVED the theming they have here.

Then we were FINALLY (or should I say: DINO-ALLY. Too cheesy? lol) at Dino-Land. And I swear that they painted this guy a different color! Rachel said that’s the same color as it has always been so I decided to do some research...

Disney can’t get anything past me!

Lol that’s such a lie, I rarely catch anything.
That’s so strange though, I wonder why they decided to paint it green!

We kept walking toward Dinosaur and stopped to pin trade with a CM. Then we saw Donald come out and I got so excited when I waved to him that I dropped my lens cap right infront of his walking path.

I was like “Oh, so sorry Donald. So sorry” Thankfully he was super chill about it. Gosh, I’m so awkward.

VLOG NUMERO 1
What's this? A post on a Tuesday? I thought I said I was only posting on Monday's and Fridays. Well guess what, THIS IS A BONUS JONAS! Wanna know why? Because, I just uploaded my very first WDW vlog on YouTube!!! WUHOO

SO, if you're confused- a Vlog (Video Blog) is when someone brings a camera around and documents their life by filming it then uploading it to social media. I love watching Disney vlogs (actually I just love vlogging in general) and thought maybe I should give it a go. I had so much fun making these and I just want to shout out Rachel who put up with me trying to simultaneously vlog and get pictures for my TR.

ANYWAYYY, I'm definitely still a newbie but I hope anyone who wants to see this enjoys it. Let me know if you did, either by commenting on YouTube or on my TR. That way, if you tell me what you liked, I can try and incorporate that into the other vlogs I still have to edit from this trip and perhaps more vlogs that I make in the future.

January 27, 2017 (Part 7)

"So Baby Pull Me Closer In the Backseat of Your Rover"
I was so excited to go on Dinosaur with Rachel because it had been years since she had ridden Dinosaur and she didn’t really remember what it was. It was still few minutes before our FP window so we just leaned up against the fountain thing for a minute or two.

Then we just went up to the FP line to see if the CM would let us in early, thankfully they did and we just right on in. We were on our rovers pretty quick and were ready for our wild ride. We got placed in the very back corner and I honestly was NOT prepared for that. I have ridden this quite a few times but it was SO jerky that I was afraid I was going to get whip-lash from how my neck kept snapping backward. I don’t know if it was because we were on a corner but it was BAD. So of course, by the point we got to the part where the big scary dino jumps out at you, I was so done. I just covered my eyes. LOL

Speaking of Dinosaur- I found this meme and just had to share because I thought this may make some of you laugh

After we got off, Rachel said if we hurried we could make it to the 12:00 or 12:30 (I can’t quite remember) showing of Finding Nemo The Musical. We really weren’t hurrying that fast because both of us were having heart palpitations from that. I’m not even kidding, Rachel put her Fitbit on my wrist because it reads heart rate and it was pretty high. Yeah okay, so that ride is a definite no for a while.
Anyway, it was fine because we just walked right into the theater and found a good seat about 5 minutes before Nemo started.​

Oh my gosh, this HAS to be my favorite theater show in Disney! Rachel had never seen it so I was so excited to get to show it to her. I always find it so hard to take time out of touring to sit down and watch a show but it is ALWAYS so worth it!

Rachel loved the show and even admitted she got a little teary at the end! Seriously, if you haven’t seen this show, you are missing out!!

Then, we had about 45 minutes before we needed to use our FP for Festival of the Lion King so to burn some time, we did the Safari Trek.​

This was a first for me so I was pretty excited! There weren’t too many animals out that day but it was still a fun little walk- except for the bird house, we both could’ve skipped that. Neither of us are really a fan of birds . ​

After that, we just headed on over to the Festival of the Lion King and got in line! We also pin traded along the way.

January 27, 2017 (Part 8)

Festival of the Lion King and the Best CM's

We probably waited about 20 minutes but we didn’t mind too much, we were just catching up on our phones and texting our friends and family. I was also trying to decide where to eat for lunch, AK had such great QS offerings that it’s hard to pick! Then the doors opened and we were led to our seats! At this point I think it was a little after 1:30 and I was getting so hungry that I could tell my blood sugar was dropping. Thankfully Rachel was super smart and had brought some candy for this very reason. This is a great idea because nobody wants to he hangry in Disney. She handed me a bag of Swedish fish and they did the trick! I know I’ve already said this but those things are just SO GOOD. Just typing this makes me want to go and get some! Update: I went out and bought some

This was another first for Rachel and she LOVED it! I can’t blame her, it is such a beautiful show and every time I see it, I just like it more and more!

After the show, we were ravaged (it was about 2:30) so it was definitely time to go find something to eat. For some reason, a corn dog sounded really good to me and so we headed to Harambe Market. To be completely honest, I didn’t even know there was a restaurant back there, but I’m so glad we decided to give it a try.
Here’s their menu, they have like 3 mini restaurants in one area.

I went for the Kid’s corndog and Rachel decided to get the kid’s BBQ chicken skewer.
Kid’s Corn Dog Meal with Apples, Carrots & Water (Plus a bonus cookie!): $6.38

The CM who handed us our food threw in an extra cookie for each of us. Usually you’re supposed to choose between fruit and veggies or a cookie so I thought that was really nice!

They made our food super quick and we found a table in a sunny spot and started to chow down! Both of us REALLY loved our meal here and thought it was a decent sized portion for us.

After lunch, we decided we were pretty much done with AK fir the day so we headed back over to the Express Bus booth and found that MARCUS WAS STILL THERE. I have never felt so lucky.
There just happened to be a Hollywood Studios bus waiting backstage so we didn’t have to wait long before heading back stage. Actually, the only reason we were waiting was because Rachel had to make a little pin trade with another one of the Guest service CM (Nobody is surprised LOL). Marcus started to try and talk to the other guests in the group with us but Rachel and I weren’t having any of it. He was just so fun to talk to! We told him that nobody was calling Rachel a princess but I was getting called a princess and he was like: *british accent* “Wut? I’ve been calling you princesses this whole time”. Thank Marcus, you’re the real MVP. We also accidentally started veering off the sidewalk into the road and he said: “Ladies, please stay on the sidewalk”. He’s on top of that Safe-D! Anyway, it wasn’t long before we had to wave goodbye to Marcus and cross the street with another CM.
This girl was also really nice, I told her how cute her costume was and she got so excited and was telling us how she found an ascot at costuming and they were really hard to find.

I know I’m making it sound like ages, but really it was maybe a minute or two of walking before we got on the bus. Then we were on our way to Studios. Wuhoo!

Thank you so much! I just use iMovie that came free with my Mac and it's super user-friendly. If you don't have a Mac, they have an IMovie app that works pretty well too, it's just missing some features. Happy vlogging!

Hollye! I read and really enjoyed your last TR of your mother-daughter trip, and then I caught a couple posts from your PTR for this one, so I was psyched to see you've got your TR with Rachel in full swing now! You two are so cute, and totally both princesses. I agree with you - Nemo is my favorite [non-nighttime-spectacular] Disney show, hands down. It's so good. I always get teary.
