I have been reading lots of threads on DVC and to tell you the truth I am a little confused.

Would you be able to help me with a few questions.

1. What is the relevance of the year date. I like to holiday in October what would be the best year date?

2. I have a family of two adults and two children and felt a studio would be best...how many points do you recommend

3. We are going to WDW in Jan 04 is there a seminar that is held to explain about DVC.

4 .How much are the dues and do these together with the purchase price mean a worthwhile saving.

5. Whilst say 170 points are enough this year for a studio do Disney put the points up so say in 5 years time a Studio needs 200 points ie inflation on the points???

Many thanks in advance

Denise

Denise,

Welcome to DVC. You'll love it! I'm new but can try to help some. Okay for a studio 170 points a year would be fine. If & when you sign up you will get this year's points (2003) the minute you start with a down payment. You'll have to pay for this year's maintainance & fees, just so that you know. It takes about 6 to 8 weeks to close if you go through disney. Mom & I started the process in early June & closed July 23rd, just to give you an idea. If your going through disney, you can book trips as soon as you put down a down payment.
You can go to an DVC Open House @ anytime during your stay @ WDW. There is a DVC desk @ all Disney Resorts & throughout the parks. Just go up to one & the will setup transportation from there to the open house. The actual talk & walk through of the villas available for purchase will take about 45 minutes. If you like what you hear you can start the process right then. Or you can take the info home & think about it. Unless, you live in one of the four states that can't sell over the phone, you can call your guide back & get the process rolling.
As far as year date, I'm not sure I'll be much help. We have a February use year. I am going HHI in October but I burrowed next year's points to go. Use Year is the time you get your allotment of points every year. So we'll get the rest of our 2004 points, Feburary 1st. I would think a Summer month use year would be good for you. But I'm not sure. I hope this helps. Sorry its long! Good luck!

You want a use year that is just before when you usually travel in case you have to cancel your trip for some reason. If you have to cancel and are in the first 6 months of your use year you can still bank the points into the next year. If you travel in October, an August or September use year would be best. Use year really has no other relevance.

How ever many points you buy, the number won't be enough. And if you go and try a one or two bedroom, you will never want to go back to a studio.

Whilst say 170 points are enough this year for a studio do Disney put the points up so say in 5 years time a Studio needs 200 points ie inflation on the points

No they can't do this unless they drop the points for some other time of year. Inflation will only effect your maintenance fees, not the points to stay at a resort. The bottom line on the number of points will always stay the same over time.

There are lots of opportunities to meet with DVC Guides and go on tours. Good luck and have fun.
