Complaints About Housekeeping

If you saw a reciept and medication on the floor, why not pick it up YOURSELF right away so the room wouldn't look cluttered?

I wouldn't have stepped over trash in MY room for FOUR days without picking it up. Wait....4 days? You could have atleast called housekeeping to pick it up for you THAT SAME DAY if you thought bending down and picking it up would have caused too much physical strain and caused you to miss out on going to the parks for several days.

Housekeepers can't pick up medication; they can be fired for doing that.

Um, I did pick up the medication---I had a 4 year old child with me, wouldn't YOU? If the housekeeper did their job correctly before I arrived, there should not have BEEN any medication on the floor for my child to find and HAND to me or worse yet, swallow in the matter of 2 seconds?? Housekeepers don't need to bend down and pick it up---that's what a vacuum does, doesn't it?

Cluttered??? it was a piece of paper that was dated about 2 weeks BEFORE we arrived. I wanted to see if the cleaning people really cleaned when they tote that sweeper around or do they just make up the beds. Question answered there.

Bottom line----the medication shouldn't have been there and the receipt should have been picked up when they vacuumed the carpet. It has nothing to do with me being lazy as you're trying to make me----I am a MOTHER, I am not lazy.

R U serious. For two days you saw this - and not once thought about putting it in the trash can. If (for example) I was a housekeeper and lets say, didn't clean the room the day before, I wouldn't throw away someones medication or a reciept - if for no other reason because you might need both. You knew the meds and the reciept didn't belong to you, housekeeping didn't know that (or its possible they didn't). I'm not judging, I'm really not - to each its own, but 4 days you saw trash on the floors and you let it stay there for 4 days. Interesting.

Apparently I didn't clarify myself well enough with my original post. I picked up the medication IMMEDIATELY when I saw it---I had a 4 year old son at the time. Wouldn't you? I also called housekeeping to let them know there was medication found on the floor. The receipt was a principle thing---I wanted to see how long it would lay there. Have you never dropped something behind the dresser and had to pull it out to pick it up?? Try that next time and see just how "clean" your room really is. You'd be amazed. The receipt wasn't "trash"---it was a small piece of paper that should have been picked up as the carpet was being vacuumed---and since it never moved, doesn't that tell you something?

Our first trip to the world was July 2002, I only heard about towel animals once before we went on a site, but was also told not to "expect" them. SO therefore I never told my kids about them! We did get about 5 that trip it was at the ASMo. Then we went in May 2004 and stayed at POP and again I didn't expect them and told my kids not to expect them (that way if we did not get them there would be no disappointment!)We got a few maybe 2, then we stayed at CBR in June 2006 and got 1. I tell my kids and myself to never expect any. If it means that much to you there are many site that teach you how to do your own. Send your kids and hubby to the pool and make up a couple while they are gone and put them on the bed for when they return. Then call for more towels

My complaint? At 8:30am one morning I was trying to sleep in after being at the MK until 1am the night before. Housekeeping POUNDED on my door. It was horrible.

Not pleasant! Maybe next time hang the privacy sign on the outside door knob and you can sleep in!

Housekeeping was just okay at the WL this past week for us personally. I noticed that the bathroom floor was never swept or appeared mopped but they did vaccum the carpet when they came in. Our sheets were changed maybe once in the 10 days we were there. I don't know if they are trying to conserve water by not washing and changing as much.

The only negative incident with housekeeping was they took and threw away a big snowglobe box which I needed to package and ship back home. It was on the floor but nowhere near any garbage can in the room. I had to find another box and get plastic bubbles. I thought they were being over zealous in throwing that away! I was careful to. tidy up the room and position trash cans so they could clean up. I did not appreciate them throwing that box away.

I appreciate clean bedding and towels when I am on holiday but I'm really not that bothered if the room isn't cleaned by a particular time every day, or even cleaned every day! I am not an untidy or dirty person so there isn't much to do really.

How much dirt and mess can you create in one day??!! I know people are on holiday but come on, tidy up after yourself.

The other thing I find really strange is people bawling at the housekeeping staff or reception if they don't have clean bedding or towels every day. I'm sure they don't change the bedding and towels every day at home so I don't get what the big deal is.

In this day and age of being environmentally conscious, hotels have stickers in the bathroom asking if you really need new towels every day to help with the environment.

People seem to go very strange over this sort of thing to me. And a turndown service? They refresh your room after mousekeeping have been in? How many sets of towels do you need in one day?They turndown the sheets and put the tv on?

Gees, do they wipe your a** too?

Our usual routine is to take a break mid-day from the parks, come back to the hotel, swim, shower, change clothes, maybe order a snack from room service. We then return to the parks for the late afternoon/evening. For us the late room service is often more needed than that in the morning, since we tend to shower after swimming instead of in the morning. I agree this is not a necessary service, but it is one of the luxuries we pay for at a deluxe resort, so why not use it?

Actually, yes. You can get a suite with a bidet at several WWD resorts. For a price, of course.

I'm just glad they clean the rooms as well as they do. Every time we have gone to WDW we have always had nice housekeeping and I appreciate that. I love housekeeping and I think they do a much better job than any other hotel or resort on the planet, but some people just cant be satisfied I guess .

Are you sure? I've seen multiple posts indicating that, when asked, the Mousekeepers tell the Guests to take the towel creations. Also recently, somebody posted that the towels used for these have been taken out of circulation (e.g. maybe a towel is wearing a little thin, or even has a small tear),

At any rate, I went searching for towel origami and the first site I found was - Carnival now SELLS them! Choice of six animals, $7.50 each!

That was my understanding, too. I have read that mousekeeping makes the towel animals on their own time, that may be true. Last December, we stayed at CSR. When I was walking through the lobby, a couple of mousekeepers had a table set up by the Christmas tree with about 40 towel animals on it. They asked me if I wanted to learn how to fold them..I did, but was pressed for time so I couldn't stop to learn. They then offered me as many of the premade ones that I wanted. I got two small ones each for DS7 and DS9, and one large bunny for myself. They even gave me a bag for them and asked me if I wanted more...

we have never had a problem with a clean room or husekeeping///we always leave a money for them with a note that says "mousekeeping" and sometimes they won't even take that but they have always done a super job in any room we were in and if we het the towel animals it brings a smile to our faces, but it doesn't ruin our day if there aren't any

Boardwalk - half-eaten cookie and half-eaten bag of generic popcorn from lounge behind a throw pillow on the couch.

Beach Club - diamond ring

All Star Movies - blood and poop on bathroom wall and disgusting stuff in sink

Wilderness Lodge Villas - candy and candy wrappers down by the phone book. I also found a badly decomposed lizard next to the sliding glass door when I pulled back the curtains.

Old Key West - a daytimer with cash and a checkbook as well as other stuff the person needed (and had been contacting Disney about, though they told him there was nothing left in the room )

Polynesian - pair of swim googles, a CD, a DVD, and (this week) a bracelet

...and this is just since I started keeping a list. I've found other stuff, too.

WDW housekeeping isn't what it ought to be, that's for sure.

My only complaint with housekeeping is that they don't vacuum enough. I've checked in enough times to see crumbs, food, wrappers and other unknown objects on the floor. I don't care about towel animals but I do care about cleanliness.

So did you complain to mousekeeping? I'm glad to see I'm not the only one that notices these things laying around the room---when they shouldn't be. Do you think we are over observant? And did you "test" mousekeeping to see if they ever picked the stuff up while you were staying there? It's funny with all of the "loot" you found (well, some loot and some not so looty) that you never found any medication like I did. It's easy to roll a pill under the bed, dresser, etc. Ours was found right in the middle of the floor between the 2 beds. One time I found a man's shirt hanging in the closet too (not at Disney though). I'm sorry, but when I do a job, no matter what job it is---I try to do it right and to the best of my ability. There is no excuse for those items to be left and not picked up by mousekeeping.

And btw, it's not just at WDW.

Except for what we came to call "the bloody carnage" at the All Star, I only contact housekeeping when the item has some value, so that it might get returned to the owner. Yes, I pick the stuff up, lol.

I don't know that it is the fault of the housekeepers. They get about 20 minutes per room. I couldn't make two beds (sometimes changing the sheets), dust, vaccuum, pick up and replace towels and toiletries, wash sinks and toilets and showers and the floor in that amount of time. I think most of the blame lies with management. They need to hire more people and give them some time in those rooms.

I'm sure there are some lazy housekeepers, but I really think that if there were more of them the rooms would be cleaner. That's my opinion, anyway.

I had childrens slippers and stuffed animal mailed to me at home, only problem was they weren't ours and I had to mail them back! Obvioulsy I don't check everwhere in our room on vacation! We did get a room at POR with white fuzz ALL over the floor the last Christmas. The room looked clean so I decided not to let the fuzz bother me, but I would have called if it hadn't been vacuumed the next day. Two Christmas ago we had stayed at POR 10 nights. I asked for late checkout the day we were leaving but of course could't get it as the hotel was fully booked. Later that night my daughter got a concussion and was vomiting repeatedly to the room and in the room. I called 911 to get her to the hospital. Luckily all the vomit went in trash cans so the room was clean, but the next day a housekeeper came at 9am and stood outside our door for 2 hours until we left, I kid you not. I assume now she was there to 'deep clean the room' but at the time I didn't put 2 and 2 together. I did tell her we would be out at 11. I still think its silly she stood outside the whole time, but I guess that is one way to make sure 'deep cleaning' doesn't get skipped!

A hotel we use for vacation leaves towel animals. Our family always thought they were cute. But, before our Disney trips, I never knew they were that big of a deal.

This will outrage someone, I'm sure, but we always took them apart and used them as... towels. It would have never occurred to me that I should keep them. I think the kids did like figuring out how the different creatures were made by untangling them as I ran the bath water.

Since the Dis has educated me, we no longer kill the towel animals.
