Compensation after returning from cruise?

Went through similar on our Eastern this past summer on the Fantasy. I agree it is unlikely that you will get any form of compensation, but I doubt even travel insurance would have compensated you in any way, other than medical costs, so don't kick yourself in that regard.

Speaking of medical costs, the ships medical staff was incredible for us and identical experiences with Pedialyte and the run-around with room service charging. I found stating the facts when ordering solved the charging problem, rather than waiting until delivery to the room. Two other things;

One, the doctor informed us they were not allowed to jail us and charge us for it (her words). So, if you are quarantined, it appears Disney will not also bill you for the medical services associated with it. Otherwise, I'm sure many would forego treatment and potentially expose others.

Two, we got a wonderful note from the captain explaining who was in quarantine (my 3YO son) and when he could leave quarantine (24 hours after last episode). It outlined what items we would receive at no cost, specifically; dry cleaning of any soiled clothing, meals and soda via room service (I did clarify this applied to a caretaker as well) and that DCL would allow us to cancel, without penalty, our next day's excursion. Our quarantine ended about an hour after our planned excursion left, so we could not have gone and I cancelled and then just did a tour on our own. They also let me change our daughter to an excursion with other family members or she would have been stuck with us.

Overall, I missed a sea day on our cruise which I was sad about, but incredibly pleased with the medical staff and the overall process. More important to ensure everyone else's health (ship's doctor suggested a bad outbreak could drydock the ship) than haul a sick child around in the heat.

Glad to hear yours is back to health.
You could have gone on the excursion with your quarantined person. Since you would have been off the ship and only 1 hour to spare. Not like they have quarantine police.

I would bet it would show on their profile when they scanned the kttw card on their way off the ship. I wouldn't want to take a chance at what they could/would do if caught. After all, 24 hours is 24 hours, not 23.

Also, if a person has been quarantined, I don't imagine that a mere 24 (or 23) hours is enough to make a miraculous recovery. Some people may feel well enough to function as normal, but most would want to take it easy until they'd recovered.

Other than mentioning Travel Insurance is available online from a variety of sources, no. They are neutral. The legal mess they got in with a Travel Insurance company nearly put them out of business, so I understand why they want to stay clear.
Travel insurance is one of the most profitable products insurance companies offer, since claims are rare.
In 9 cruises and 3 extended overseas trips over the last 40 years I have purchased Travel Insurance just once. It was for our Disney Cruise. I purchased it because it was our most expensive cruise (by three fold), and because the cruise was between Christmas and New Years when travel is heavy, and the weather bad.
The best advice I think is to look at what your health insurance covers........look at what your credit card covers if you paid by credit card.....and evaluate what your tolerance for financial risk.

Agree--claims are rare. And as a former Insurance Agent once told me, Insurance Companies are in business to make $$--NOT to pay claims unless absolutely necessary.

And even the insurance firms with the most modest profit margins have to charge premiums higher than they ever expect to pay you back or they would be out of business.

From reading this thread, I am starting to think that the children's pool might have been what made my nephew ill. He ate the same as the rest of us and he was the only one who used that pool.

on our last cruise - 5-day Dream - I saw the mickey pool closed and cleaned 3 times. It was disappointing; but luckily, our son thinks it's for 'babies' so doesnt use it :)

We stayed on deck 12 and I did hear the concierge staff mention a family that had put themselves voluntarily on quarantine.

We were on Deck 12 as well and I saw the carpet cleaner coming out of at least two rooms, as well as cleaning staff in the protein spill hazmat clothing.

Can't wait. I board the Fantasy on Saturday.. ugh..

Ahhh, you'll be fine. When we took Princess last year for the 12-night British Isles cruise, we arrived in Southhampton in the morning, and sat in the terminal until after 3 p.m. Reason -- they had a major norovirus on the previous sailing and had to deep clean the ship. Everyone was very happy to wait. Odd though that once onboard, they did not have servers handling the buffets for the first 48 hours, but nothing happened that we were aware of and we had a great time.

I'm beginning to be glad we've never taken any kind of cruise other than dive ones. Those are on small boats with usually no more than 15 divers and staff and nothing but bare bones beds but lots of diving. The contracts for those state that in case of a hurricane, oh well, you just lost your money. They don't give refunds for anything.

FWIW, i've been on 7 cruises over 4 lines (I know, not "extensive enough" for some on here, but still) and not gotten sick once.

Ive worked on the ships for over three years now. I've only gotten sick once (and put straight into isolation, I'm pretty sure that was due to something I ate in port) and I've only worked through one big outbreak.

Yes, unfortunately, there are people that get sick and put in isolation every cruise, and about once every other contract procedures get put in place (restrictions at buffets, constant cleaning, certain things taken away), to stop a major outbreak when numbers are getting higher than normal.

20 cruises over 7 cruise lines and we have never gotten sick. Our table mates were quarantined and our cabin neighbors to one side of us and ones across the hall from us were quarantined. In fact our ship had such a high percentage of passengers sick that the news met our ship back in the homeport and some of our fellow cruisers were a highlight on the evening news.

Just wash your hands, wash your hands, wash your hands and avoid touching anything you don't absolutely have to.

And take the damn wipes when offered to you. They aren't handing them out just for fun.

Never mind the fact that the wipes do nothing to kill noro. The best thing they can be used for is what my wife uses them for. She holds on to hers and uses it to pick up the spoon/tongs when she serves herself at the buffet. Works almost as well as a pair of disposable gloves.
