Anyone have a suggestion as to a reasonably small, lightweight tripod that would be suitable for toting around all day at Mickey's World? I have a small Slik that is very lightweight, but is about 24" long, and I'd like something about half that length, or less.

Thanks,

what is your camera? 24" long folded tripod is standard for any decent tripod.
If you use point and shoot, you can use Manfrotto Modo (the maximum handling weight is only 2.2 lbs) but it can be folded to 17".

I use a cheapo no-name tripod at WDW.

You can find tripods like this in places like Best Buy, Circuit City, and some camera stores, for about $10-$15.

It's about 6" long when folded, and extends to about 14", but I rarely extend it. I use it on trash cans and such whan I want to take a night shot like this:

I have a Nikon D50, 18-200 VR lens, and SB600 flash. I bought a Slik Mini Pro V Table-Top Tripod with Pan Head. Height is 6.8 - 8.58 inches tall. It supports 3.3 pounds and only weighs 12.6 ounces. I also bought a Bogen - Manfrotto RC2 Compact Rapid Connect Adapter w/3157N Plate. I used it at WDW. It works great, as long as you have somewhere to set it up.

My present cam is a Fujifilm Finepix S5200, which is a little larger than a standard P&S, and is significantly smaller than a DSLR, particularly when lens size/weight is considered. WillCAD, your 14" compact sounds like it might be what I need.

I just got this tripod from amazon.com. Folds to 14 1/2 inches and can handle up to 3.3lbs. Only thing I don't like is that it only takes horizontal shots. No tilt for verticle shots. I also just picked up a table top that also has velcro straps to attach to other objects. Haven't tried it out yet, but it was on clearance for $10 so I thought I'd give it a shot. Target, Wal-Mart and Ritz Camera have similar small table top tripods for around $15.

There are many lightweight inexpensive tripods at the discount stores. Most are of ok quality (I have two of them and use them).

A step upscale would be Velbon's Maxi series, small, light, and good quality (about $100). I have one of these and occasionally carry it around WDW.

I played around with the tripod last night. I thought I might take the head off and put a different head on from another tripod, but the head on the new tripod doesn't come off. However, I did figure a way to take verticle shots with it. Its not the most stable but will work. I just have to tilt the head with the camera in the horizontal position so that it would be taking a picture of the ground, then turn the camera itself. Like I said, it doesn't make it the most stable tripod in that position, but I don't plan on using it like that all that time. It will work in a pinch. Plus its a lot easier to cart this tripod around as it folds down to almost 10 inches smaller than my regular tripod. It holds up to 3.3lbs. My D50 with the 18-70mm lens on it is 2.8lbs (I weighted it with the scale I use with my homebrew).

Just thought I'd update if interested.
