She said, "Sorry, we all caught a bug and were down yesterday and this morning. Feeling better now, so I have a snack update for now and we are getting ready for La Hacienda @ 5:00. Our snack was from the caramel shop in Germany."

La Hacienda - Mixed grill offering New York strip, chicken al pastor, chorizo and vegetables, served with beans and fresh salsas


Christina said, "We skipped appetizers and went straight for entrees. The adults split the "Del Mar" and "La Hacienda", each meant to feed 2. The La Hacienda was very good. The steak was tender, the chicken moist, and the chorizo was nice and spicy We loved the roasted corn and veggies too."

"The fish was wonderful, the shrimp cooked perfectly, but the scallops were AMAZING! Huge and tender. I kept stealing them from my husband. Both came with rice and beans. They were good but I was too busy enjoying scallops."

I've spent the last few days of my Christmas vacation, and so has my wife, going page by page through this thread.

The amount of work you've put into this thread, jabead, is mind boggling.

This is my new favorite DIS thread. Thank you for giving us our Disney fix!

I would love to help out by doing a live report while I'm visiting WDW in a couple of weeks. I would love to do a full DR but I know my schedule and as soon as I'm back to reality there will be little to no time to do so.

Having this thread to contribute to will let me help my fellow Disers, as so many of the reviews here have helped me in my planning of previous trips, as well as my upcoming one.

My Niece and I are heading down January 21st to celebrate her 10th birthday (albeit a couple of months early).

We are spending 5 nights on the DxDp and trying a variety of places, including 3 Signatures.

Next we have an update from quietgirl.


She said, "We got checked in at POR at 6:30 this a.m. and headed over to MK. It's been drizzling some all day, but that hasn't dampened our spirits! We got in line at 10:20 for BoG, and the line was out over the bridge to where the menu is.
The line moved very quickly, and everyone was very nice!!"

"For my meal, I had the pork with mashed potatoes and green beans...."

Braised Pork (Coq Au Vin style) - eight-hour slow-cooked pork with mushrooms, onions, carrots and bacon served with mashed potatoes and green beans jardiniere


"The pork was delicious, very tender. The potatoes were good, and the green beans were crunchier than I like. I prefer softer green beans, so I ate very few of those. I did clear the rest of the plate though!!"

Tuna Nicoise Salad - warm seared tuna steak with chilled green beans, potatoes, olives, roasted bell peppers, tomatoes, and hard boiled eggs

"DGF had the tuna nicoise salad, and she loved it. She enjoyed the flavor, and ate everything on her plate except a few sprouts."




"We also both used a snack credit to get a soup on the dining plan."

And DGF had the French onion. I was surprised at how good these both were! My potato needed a little salt, but other than that, it was perfect! As far as the French onion, if I hadn't read it, I would never doubt it was beef based!!"

"I had the triple chocolate cupcake, and I can't say enough great things about it. Single best thing I had all day today. Cupcake was very moist, great flavor, and the inside was a yummy mousse consistency. I think good cupcakes are very hard to find, but this one was amazing."

Lemon Meringue Cupcake - Vanilla sponge cake, lemon custard filling, flamed meringue icing and crunch


"DGF had the lemon meringue cupcake, and she only had good things to say about it. There was none left behind!!"

"But mine was pretty impressive too!!"

Thank you so much Goofyluver for your kind words and taking the time during your vacation to go through the 1600+ posts of this thread. For New Year's I myself went through all the great updates that I've received since I began doing this a little more than 4 months ago. Talk about mind boggling! Sooo many wonderful pictures from sooo many great people!

Anyway, I love to hear from new readers...actually, I love to have comments, feedback, suggestions etc. from all readers. It's part of what keeps this thread going.

I agree! The pics from that last update have convinced me to give La Hacienda another try.

What a better way to start the day then an update from one of our favorite Disney Dining Reporters, Mr. DonaldDoleWhip!

His update from yesterday was from his visit to Magic Kingdom.


He said, "My next update consists of several pics from the new Fantasyland.
Someone in our group is a huge Belle fan, so we started off our morning by seeing "Enchanted Tales with Belle."

"The details in Maurice's Cottage are really cute!"

"I really enjoyed the show, partly because of its awesome audio-animatronics (like the Wardrobe!)"




"Next, we headed to Gaston's for a snack..."

"I tried LeFou's Brew and liked it a lot, the toasted marshmallow flavor on the bottom was an interesting twist."

"The pork shank was also really good! Very tender and full of meat (even after I cut off most of the fat). Even with the fat, I still recommend it! I hate chewing on fat, but the fat was easy to separate from the "edible" meat.
Also, if you're like me (as opposed to Gaston), you can opt to eat it with a knife and fork."

"From Belle's village, we headed to Prince Eric's Castle to visit Ariel and her friends. The queue for this ride is gorgeous, and the ride is definitely my favorite Fantasyland dark ride."

"The Mermaid ride is a really nice addition to MK. It's full of bright colors, and it has some cool audio-animatronics (Scuttle was one of the most entertaining, IMO). There are some minor issues with it (such as a rushed ending), but it's still a cute ride with a fantastic queue."

"For a midday snack, we stopped at Main Street Bakery. After all the controversy surrounding MSB's "closure", I wanted to try a cinnamon roll there. This thing is huge and easy to split."

"My portion was a bit dry on the bottom, but it still tasted good. (By the way, the brown icing on top tasted like maple! I'd heard that the maple flavor was exclusive to Gaston's, but apparently that's not the case. )"

She and Emme arrived at Disney World last night and had dinner at Downtown Disney's...

"Emme kept repeating, "What's going on mommy?! Where are we?!"

"The ice cave. Very cool. It changes colors. There's also meteor showers every 20 minutes."

emmebear said, "This was good. Tasted like Velveeta Mac & Cheese."

"This was ok at best. It had 3 corn tortillas wrapped over one tiny piece of battered fish. There was too much red cabbage on the inside, not enough fish and I could barely taste the avocado cream. The black beans were nicely seasoned and the rice was well cooked though."

"T-Rex was nice to try once. It was very loud & busy! If the Disney site shows no ressies available (like it did for me), call T-Rex directly for a ressie! Wait time for walk-ins was 80 minutes! But we waited less than 5 minutes with a ressie."



And last emmebear said, "Emme loved the dinosaurs. There's lots to see for the kids but the food was lacking. $55 for child's entree, light cup, milk, 2 beers, one adult entree, and tip. They don't accept TIW but I did get 10% off with my Annual Pass."

'50s Prime Time Cafe

Chicken Noodle Soup - Hearty mixture of chicken, vegetables, and egg noodles


Joyce said, "It was drizzly and a little chilly in the park, so we all ordered the chicken noodle soup to warm us up.
Very homey tasting."

"Peanut butter and jelly shake for DD and I."

Aunt Liz's Golden Fried Chicken served with mashed potatoes, chicken gravy and green beans


"David and I both had this as our entree...I substituted green beans, but David had the collard greens that usually comes with it. I want Aunt Liz's recipe!!! From the crackly skin to the moist meat, this is good stuff."

Grandma's Chicken Pot Pie - A creamy cheese mixture of chicken, mushrooms, carrots, celery, onions, and peas topped with a flaky pastry


"Katy enjoyed this. It was loaded with chicken!"




"We were stuffed. We so enjoy '50s...we had a very Mom-like server, so no antics. (David didn't even get reprimanded for not touching his greens! ) It was fine, though...she was so nice. Love the atmosphere and the food."




Then for dinner they headed over to the Polynesian Resort to dine at...

Joyce said, "It was way too dark where we were sitting for decent pics (and everyone has seen the food there, right?)...but here's a Lapu Lapu, which DD and I both indulged in. Yum! The kids liked the food a lot. David was all over the wings. I thought it was okay, not mind-blowing. I was exhausted, so maybe that colored my perception."


Joyce added, "Oh, and Katy's luggage made it yesterday [been missing since their arrival on Wednesday] after an Atlanta detour!!! Big relief though...hooray!" ​
