Coming from Europe, which airline to choose?

Hi!
I'm planning my next trip to USA and I'll come from Europe. Probably from Italy (Rome or Milan) but sometimes I see good offers from Brussels, London, Amsterdam and other European cities.
I was a TWA frequent flyer with A LOT of no expiration miles, but TWA seems to be out of business now. Does someone know if TWA as been incorporated in another airline and if I can still claim my FF miles? :confused3
Probably I'll have no luck for TWA miles, but I'd like to know your experience in overseas flight. What about seats, food (it's still free?) and general service (touristic class of course!).
Now one of the best offers is by Delta, but I'm also looking for offers by US Airways, United, Continental, Brussels Airlines, Virgin, Alitalia and others.
Any suggestion for the best airline for the money?

Thank You!

TWA was absorbed by American Airlines. I know that they *were* converting TWA FF miles, but the buyout happened several years ago, so that offer might be gone now. You could try calling American AAdvantage to find out.

Thank You for the TWA info. Seems that I am well over the time limits for my miles... :(
