Come to the Dark Side...We Have Cookies...(updates 4/3)

It was a lot of fun. They had a pot belly stove in the middle of the store with a table and chairs with the checkers set. The conversation on the phones that you are listening to is a couple of women gossiping. It just is a piece of America that Main Street is supposed to represent.

Sounds very quaint and nostalgic, perfect for Main St.

The Starbucks at WDW is replacing the Main St. Bakery. I wonder how they will keep that nostalic feel about it with a modern name?

Blonde is a lighter roast coffee, not so strong

I love coffee flavored ice cream. Just not so fond of the bitter taste of real coffee. It smells so good though.

I was thinking about you today. I thought... "omg, I haven't seen anything come through from Michelle in so long. Is she writing a PTR or TR?"

:confused3:confused3:confused3:confused3:confused3

Sure enough, I somehow missed that you started a TR and a PTR!!!! Then again, maybe my subscription got lost? I have been having a hard time keeping up with dis... but to completely miss :faint::faint:

:(:worried::(:worried:

I have now sub'd to both and will have to catch up. I am so so sorry!!!! Can't wait to read all about everything!

:flower3::flower3::flower3:

Glad you found me!

I keep losing subsciptions too. I think it's from viewing the threads on my phone. I have a touch screen and when I touch for last page, it sometimes hits unsubscribe.

What does your dh and Zoe do while you are running? Is there a viewing area somewhere? I'd just love to see Zoe run. DH is thinking of getting ready for a 5k. He has a million questions for you.

me too! I may not always post, but I love hearing how things are going!

:scratchin I wonder if that is what happened. I have been viewing from my phone to try and keep up some times...

There is an entire aspect to the race JUST for spectators. However, it is early and Steve will not be able to get up that early so I did not purchase a "cheer package" for him and Zoe. Instead they will sleep. As my finish time approaches they will make their way to the finish line so that they can see me cross. There is a tool that he has though...should he be up early, that will direct him where to go to see the race at certain points. It is kinda like "get on the monorail..go to here...get off monorail...turn left and wait for your runner to pass" type directions. So to answer your question, there is viewing areas along the route but Steve and Zoe will likely sleep in and hopefully just see me at the finish.

The kids race is in Epcot parking lot.. I think. If you really want to see Zoe run, I am sure that I could get you more information. I am sure that she would love to see Anakin again. :goodvibes.

And the 5k... ask away. I am far from an expert though. Dh laughs at me when I say that I am just starting to think of myself as a runner. I think everyone has different ways to train that work for them. I think my biggest advice would be no matter how you train... consistency is key. Follow what ever program you choose (galloway walk/run is popular, but I have LOVED the "couch to... " programs) and stick to it. It is very easy to say...today I don't feel quite up to it...or the weather just isn't quite right...or any number of things. Nike's "just do it" campaign couldn't be more accurate. Just do it and get through it. There will be days that go better than others... but even a bad day in the freezing cold is better than no day at all.

I am all caught up on this thread now. I love the intros! How cool that Grumpy may be cooking for Disney!!!!

Kinda sounds like Limited Time Magic isn't very pervasive. Just a little bit going on here or there. Still snow in canada is pretty neat!

Love your peek through to the mine ride! Is that going to be inside a building or more like barnstormer where you will see the tracks?

I am sad that Main Street bakery will be closed when we are there in a couple weeks. However the snacks a Gastons Tavern look pretty yummy!

The giggle gang looks fun! My family tend to be a bit scared of clowns though..so we probably will miss that. I am glad that Anakin found it funny though!!!

Thanks for the info. I'll probably be picking your brain some more.

I hope we get a chance to see you all for a bit. If not, then next time.

The mine ride appears to have some track outside, but most of it will be inside.

I love how they are in character, thanks, love that picture too.

There's another entertainment group in the New Fantasyland that we haven't seen yet.

Hip Hop classes are a go. And I'll be joining ds. Goodness knows, I need some exercise. It's only once a month though.

A wrech got thrown in the mix, a conflict of dates. The 15th Annual Family Cafe in Orlando is last weekend of SWW. This has me torn. I've been told the workshops are fantastic. There is also a conflict on Memorial Day weekend with the 25th Annual FPEA Homeschool Convention, also in Orlando.

This however does not sound like fun! I hate when I am pulled in different directions and I have events or obligations that conflict!

Hey! I'm here. I'm beginning to wonder if I will ever complete another trip report or start my own. Geez. I have to get things organized better so I have some me time.

You have me craving grilled cheese sandwiches and cinnamon rolls now...thanks. :thumbsup2

Favorite picture so far...yes, Tiana and her Prince pretending to be a frog! I LOVE it! That is so cute. We miss you guys.

I don't mind missing the FPEA convention as much as I would miss the Family Cafe.

:welcome: Tammy! Sounds very hectic at your end. Were you just on another cruise? I think pics I just saw were a different one?

Oh that grilled cheese is good! I've had my fill of cinnamon rolls now. I think I MIGHT be able to pass on them next time.

No :(...we are going the last weekend...

So finally got thru your whole PTR...somehow I had the beginning and the end but not the middle...so ended up rereading a lot lol...

something you talked about maybe 10 pages back...keeping cool...and freezing water bottles...

I know the values dont have freezer but is that the same for Moderate? (we are staying at CBR)...

And idea I had was to freeze my bottles at home pack in my suitcase in a cooler and put in fridge as soon as we get to hotel (or as soon as our luggage gets there)...I will be leaving my house around 11am on Friday June 7 and should be at hotel around 4 and next day is our starwars weekend day(s)...all our other park days we will be taking an afternoon break but not sure we will get one on SWW days so would love some cold water bottle to keep cool...think I will do an experiment to see how long the water will stay frozen...I'll keep you posted lol

:welcome: I'm so glad you came out of lurkdom!

I have no idea what I'm doing that last weekend. I'm sure we will be at SWW most of the time. Maybe one afternoon go over to the other even.

The mods do not have freezers either. But at CSR when we stayed there, putting our frozen water bottles near the top back and hiking down the temp to the coldest setting of the refrig kept them mostly frozen the first night.

A couple weekends ago, we went to a charity event. When my youngest learned what a charity was and how they help people, he wanted to start his own. I told him you find a need that is close to your heart and once you do, we will look into it.

The very next day, a need presented itself. I was talking with a friend from the theater. Her daughter is in her 30's and has special needs. My friend is getting older and is concerned about what will happen when the day comes that she isn't there to take care of her dd? I've thought of that many times myself about JJ. I was in my late 30's when I had him. While he's young now, I may be faced with the same issue in the future. I'd like to have the peace of mind that he will be taken care of.

So while it is in the planning stages, this very well may be JJ's charity project. There are 42 special need actors in his theatre. Chances are most of the parents will be faced with this issue.

you know I was thinking about the same thing this weekend. Someone is our church takes care of her grown son with special needs. She is older, probably 70s. So what will happen when she is gone? I am assuming the boys sister (also in our church and I say in her 50s) would probably take care of him but not sure. And lots of people dont have that option...

I think that would be something great for JJ to work on.

Thanks for the info on the water bottles...I think we will do just that and hope for the best.

Hopefully the brain surgery that JJ needs to stop the seizures will be more perfected in the future. Right now it has a 70% success rate of no seizures for 2 years. But I'd like to see it have a 90%+ rate before we'd consider it. If his seizures remained intractible like they were in 2010, we were ready to consider it. But he is doing so much better, with a couple a month and breakthrough seizures with med changes.

His developmental delay is a concern too, but he has made some huge strides in the last year.

My hope and prayer is that his seizures will stop and he will be able to learn to take care of himself. He is very intelligent and very eccentric. However, he doesn't have basic life skills down pat, but we are working very hard on them.

For example, he can tell you how to cross a street, to look both ways and if nothing is coming to procede. However, in practice he just can't do it. He gets too impulsive and only focuses on his goal of crossing the street and forgets the process.

He still has trouble dressing himself. I make him do it, and tell him to take all the time he needs, but it frustrates him to no end. Which is why he wears alot of polos. He can put them on, but he has trouble with t-shirts. His shoes are marked so he can tell left from right. I can't tell you how many times he puts his pants on backwards. Even socks are a challenge for him. Usually the heel ends up on the top rather than the bottom. So getting dressed is very "hard" but doing multiplication is easy for him. Go figure.

I don't know if my oldest could take care of him or not. Right now, he can't. JJ is too much of a handful for him.

I'm sure there is alot of the population who will face similar issues.

As for the water, we also have a really good insulated big cooler. I remember one time packing that up with all frozen water bottles. I packed zip lock bags to get ice from the ice machine at the resort and as we used bottles, I replaced it with ice bags. I think we got 2 full days out of doing it that way. By the end of the 2nd day, the bottles had more water than ice.

I KNOW this concern all too well. I hope this might be something that speaks to your hearts if it is meant to be.

JJ's charity idea tugs at my heart! I know several families that have adult children who are unable to care for themselves as well. The parents are getting up in age and they do not have other children. I really worry what will happen. Keep us posted on what you do as I know lots of us will support it.

JJ is amazing what he strives to do. While he does have some areas he may struggle in (getting dressed), there are so many amazing things you share with us that he does. With his young age and advancements in medical treatments, I pray things will continue to improve every day.

Getting ready for some snow over the weekend........looking forward to some warm Florida weather in 11 days :)

Right now the theater is our number one fundraiser project. $60,000 is what needs to be raised.

Once we have assurance that the theater is healthy financially, then we will move on to the other.

I know you have those thoughts yourself. I believe we talked about it at some point how we were both concerned about the future of our children. JJ always says, "when I don't have seizures anymore, I'm going to do...." I surely hope there will come a day when he doesn't have seizures anymore. I know the docs say it's highly unlikely, but I'll always hold out for that miracle.

Thanks for the Valentine's wishes!

As I wrote above, the theater is our number 1 right now. If the theater isn't staying afloat, then the special needs program can't. It costs about $10,000 to put on those two special needs plays. He isn't only in that program, but he also participates in the homeschool program and hopefully will get into the summer children's play. They often cast the special needs children into the other children's plays. Since this is his first, it will probably be general assembly. But he has to audition like everyone else, singing 16 bars and reading script. I'm not worried about the singing, but the reading will be a huge challenge for him. Thankfully he is very expressive as he is sounding out words.

Thanks, his condition really fascinates the medical community that sees him. His extra neurons are around the same area that Einstein had extra glial cells. We are working hard on developing his strengths and overcoming his weaknesses.

It's interesting that he can remember much of the script from seeing a play once. Twice and he had even more memorized. I guess it's different parts of the brain that work better than others for him. He notices find detail, where dh and I see the general picture.

He can recite the whole Hyperspace Hoopla from last year's SWW. He also knows the lines of the storm troopers from the preshow for Stars of the Saga. If something changes, he can pick out what was different.

Did you get the pm I sent you back? I asked if you had texting?

The brain is truly an amazing thing!! His strengths are amazing!!! He appears so more mature than his age in how he relates to things. His strengths will get him far.

No, I didn't see the pm but yes, I have unlimited texting. I'll go look for the pm now.

such an amazing boy JJ is! love the fact he wants to help others!
know what the theater means to you all and would be happy to help out!!!
