Going to POR for 7 nights in June. As I look at all the info about POR it always reverts back to the Bayou. Why? :confused3 Will we enjoy this area as much as the Bayou. We are from Colo. and see the rustic theming quite often when we are vacationing. It's getting a little old to me.
I am leaning towards Magnolia as it seems to have more of a luxurious air to it. We are a cast of me DW & 2 DD's who all appreciate the nicer things in life. :) I want to get a good location for us and I know that 14, 15 or 18 in the Bayou are good but what about Magnolia?

TELL US HOW GREAT MAGNOLIA BEND IS PLAEASE!!!!! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

We were in Parterre Place and our room was beautifully decorated and felt as spacious as our rooms at WL. We preferred this section since it was such an easy, scenic walk to the main buildings, food court, etc. How much did we love it? We'd split the stay with SSR (Saratoga Springs Resort), which is considered a Deluxe DVC property and the three of us (DH, DS9 and myself) all strongly preferred POR-Mansions. I think you'll have a wonderful time there!

We had a room in Parterre Place on our last trip - hoping to get in the same building again this year :)

we stayed at Magnolia Bend for 14 nights. It was lovely - near a quiet swimming pool but not far from the main pool & food court. The rooms backed on to a little courtyard with fountain - very pretty. I also like this resort as you can get the boat to DTD.

I just wanted to say that it's nice to know that I'm not the only one from Colorado that isn't looking for "rustic theming" in Florida! I've heard great things about WL, but it was never a consideration at all since it looks so much like everything else around here! :)

That said, I do like the Alligator Bayou (we almost stayed there), but what I love about it is the grounds - the live oaks, little pathways through the trees, the whole Bayou look. We don't get that here! :thumbsup2

Shhhhhh! The reason you haven't heard about it ---they don't want you and everyone else to know how good it is! :rotfl: Parterre Place -nice location, beautiful grounds, 'nuf said.

Magnolia Terrace, bldg 85 (if I remember correctly) is wonderful. Right next to a quiet pool/laundry area, just a quick walk over the bridge to the main pool. We stayed there and liked it. The formal gardens are beautiful. I just happen to prefer the 'wildness' of the bayou area. However, my friend prefers the formality of the mansions!!

We've tried POR twice.
the first time we were put in Magnolia Bend - loved the location, decor - it was the very odorous smoking room we couldn't stand! (as in, not a non-smoking room)
the second time we were put in the rustic side, and we were much less thrilled with our location. I think the rustic side appeals to those who want to use the rollout bed to house a family of five for the price of a regular room. The buildings on the rustic side are only two floors, but they also don't have elevators. Plus, it was along walk to our bus stop, and a fairly long walk to the food court.

Count us in for Magnolia Bend :thumbsup2 We have stayed at POR twice in the past. Once in the Bayou and once in Mangnolia. I prefer the interior decor of Magnolia Bend much, much better. The Bayou room looked more old and beat up to me, vs. rustic.

Love, Love, Love Magnolia Bend!!!!!!! We were in Oak Manor last fall and have requested it again this year. I would probably insist on being transferred to POFQ before I would stay in the Bayou. The rustic theme is not "our thing" which is why WL and AK are never on our list of places to stay either.

That being said, the Bayou does serve a nice purpose- it is where the trundles are which allows a family of 5 to stay at a moderate. Maybe that is why you see so much info about it.... :confused3

We've stayed at the Polynesian, at Fort Wilderness in a Wilderness Home and at what was then called "Dixie Landings" in Parterre Place. We are finally going back after getting the kids through college and hubby's favorite - Dixie Landings (aka now Port Orleans - Riverside) is the lodging of choice. Lovely grounds, beautifully appointed rooms, convenient to everything, and of course, great memories. We loved it then and can't wait to return. Have a great vaca.

We stayed in Oak Manor several years ago, but are still sold on the Alligator Bayou section. Prefer the grounds/themes. As for appreciating the "finer things," we found the amenities, etc. to be exactly the same in both sections -- just decor/theme was different. Magnolia Bend is just "fancy hotelish" to me.

I like Magnolia Bend, I have stayed there twice. I have not stayed in AB yet, but I did viist that area last time I was there. It looks nice, but the landscaping looks very much like my apt complex in Daytona ,,natural Fl foliage that I see everyday so I like MB for the landscape.

We will always have a special place in our hearts for the mansions in what we still call Dixie Landings. It was our first on- site experience (and after that, there was no going back to off -site lol) We have since moved on to BC because we became DVC members and our home resort is BCV. We do still love an occasional stay at the now PORS, in the Magnolia section, of course. We always felt we got deluxe resort decor/landscaping for a moderate price! :thumbsup2

We stayed in Magnolia Terrace the first time and I was disappointed to learn we would be in AB last October. AB is now our favorite part of POR, but we LOVED Magnolia Bend and would stay there again. We were right across from a quiet pool and laundry and the rooms were beautiful. i do think the AB rooms are pretty as well as rustic, and I love the grounds...but the Magnolia Bend section is just as charming and we would stay there again in a heartbeat.

Same here. Dixie Landings in '97 for our first onpsite stay. We went back to POR for nostalgia's sake in 2005. Stayed in Parterre in 1997 and Acadian House in 2005.

Acadian is right next door to Alligator Bayoo. To be honest, imo, Alligator and the Mansions seem to be only different in decoration, location, and the fact that Alligator sleeps 5. It seems to me, once you get there and are settled in, which section you stay at doesn't seem as important as it does when you are planning your vacation. You still get to walk along the river and around the gorgeous grounds of POR. To me, the view is breathtaking no matter what section you're in. I found the river and landscaping at POR more beautiful than POLY.

Enjoy your stay at the mansions,
Tink

We stayed in Magnolia Terrace and just loved it! It was right near a bus stop so we did not have a long walk at night when we returned from the parks. We were a short walk to the main pool and food court. It was also nice sitting outside of our room in the late afternoons just enjoying the sunshine! We will be returning soon and hope to be back in Magnolia Terrace!

Thanks for the replies. I'm glad to hear about the Magnolia side. :thumbsup2

Disney Fool, I'll try to keep it quiet for us. :rolleyes1

Cinderumbrella, we stayed at the ALK last time and we did not feel it was rustic at all. It was a beautiful place. Check it our sometime.

Fionasmommy, howdy from lakewood. Hope your trip with your little one is a good one.

Where should we ask for if we have a car and non-smoking and standard room and would like easy access to the food court and store?
Any suggestions?

Thankss, YO
