How are they going to pay for it between divisions? Thats the problem. Transfers between operating companies need to be done at a fair price. Disney resorts can't give DVC rooms. That's the GAAP violation that causes IRS and SEC issues.

They same as they would anytime they have offered some sort of discounts. Also, if occupancy is down they'll be offering discounts to cash customers. None of us really know what they exchange offered is anyway as there are fees that go out to various divisions to handle the exchanges. In these times I 100% do not believe a lower rate would be examined and could easily be justified with a one sentence, maybe one word. Pandemic.

There is wording in the POS that if a resort is closed for a disaster, like a hurricane, while it is being repaired the owners can not use their points at other DVC resorts, basically the points are lost while the major repair work is in progress. That may be the guideline they are using. The resorts are closed through no fault of Disney or DVC, they are under government orders responding to what legally is referred to as "an act of God."

Well this is where it gets interesting.

I was talking to a real estate lawyer today here in Florida, Florida lifts the ban and there is no more a state of emergency and the "act of God" is over, technically at that point DVC MUST open their resorts. Owners actually own property in Orange County and they have the right to go to their property. Could open DVC up to a class action lawsuit if they remain close.

It is going to get very interesting over the next couple of weeks.

The governor had put in a state of emergency prior to the closing. So, based on the way I read the POS under emergency powers, it was enough to allow for the closing

Sure, they could offer us discounts....they already have. Will that make you happy? And in these times, I suspect everyone will be out for their own - we are seeing it right here - including shareholders, and Disney is in for one hell of a shareholder lawsuit if they aren't careful.

On the other hand, I'm also a shareholder, and while there is a fiduciary responsibility to shareholders, imagine the millions of dollars a guest lawsuit would cost if someon got sick and DIsney was found not to be taking CDC recommended precautions. Yep, the company, like all companies, is in a pickle, that is multiplied by a sue happy society of self entitlement with no regard for humanity and health as a whole.

The "unique" situation of WDW (and probably other theme parks) is already coming under discussion on whether they really could reopen or not. However the resorts should be able to and that's all that we're guaranteed with DVC.

CDC recommendations will change (in fact today a new set of guidelines are coming out from the CDC) that is the only way the DVC hotels can open. Now we know Disney will go along with them and maybe take them even further for more safety.

LoL. That is what boredom and nothing to do here in NY causes...but boy, was it an eye opening experience!

I do know that not all employees of every division throughout the company were furloughed as my DD and some of her coworkers were kept on even though Broadway is completely shut down.,,

This is so true. Granted we know a lot of people won't go (and also a lot probably will) but as long as they are open it would take care of the points problem.

Oh, yeah. EVERYTHING Disney does right now needs to be looked at through multiple lens. DVC members are just one small piece of a puzzle - and frankly I suspect one that has pretty minimal legal rights in this case.
