BREAKING: Universal Orlando Resort Reportedly Will No Longer Require Masks Indoors

Safety measures related to the COVID-19 pandemic at theme parks have been changing on a weekly basis as of late. First, temperature checks were removed and physical distancing requirements reduced to three feet. Then, the mandate for face coverings to be worn while outdoors was relaxed less than two weeks ago. Now, it’s being reported to us that wearing masks indoors will also become optional.
Beginning this coming Saturday, May 29th, the requirement for wearing masks indoors is expected to become optional. This will include eliminating the requirement for face coverings when experiencing attractions, both indoors and outdoors.

BREAKING: Universal Orlando Resort Reportedly Will No Longer Require Masks Indoors - WDW News Today (wdwnt.com)

Waaaay too premature given the fact that children under 12 cannot be vaccinated. I really hope Disney does not follow suit. Really disappointing. We will be canceling the Universal portion of our trip. I just do not trust that unvaccinated people are wearing masks.

Hopeful news indeed that things may get back to normal - I do hope that prods Disney to follow suit soon, and hopefully all the parks can drop all the Covid-related changes soon so the park experiences can be fully back to normal. I'm hoping DIsney will follow by my trip July 2, and maybe lines can start to go back to normal, fast passes return, plexiglass on rides taken down, etc. I haven't tracked how much of that has gone on at Universal (lines with social distancing stretching into other ride or store areas, plexiglass dividers, every other row seating, etc)...but I'd think making masks optional indoors for vaccinated is a sign that all of the pandemic changes will drop away.

Science!

Has it actually been officially announced by USO?? I keep seeing blog posts and such but not from USO.

Exciting news, my party except for the kids are all fully vaccinated but I don't know who is comfortable taking their masks off in a crowded indoor space yet. I'm more happy that maybe this means we can actually get a ride photo with no masks on.

well we're excited here. Both DH and I are fully vaccinated and our kids have had their first shot. What's interesting, and I honestly didn't expect it, is my own anxiety about going into a store without one. There are still several people here wearing masks and the couple of times I've gone without one I did not feel ok about it. We'll have to see if that feeling remains in the summer heat and humidity.

I do not have children younger than the vaccine age limits right now but I can not see an 8 year old wanting to wear their mask indoors when the rest of their family is able to take their mask off. Just my own thoughts this morning...... Personally I am very excited about the change as we will all be able to leave the masks off this trip!

We still wear ours in situations where our youngest needs to wear one. He is partially vaccinated though so we have an end in sight. I don't think he really cares though and would understand if we were mask-free and he wasn't. Most kids are pretty flexible and not nearly as bothered by mask rules as some adults are. I know it varies by state but our kids have been wearing them all year at school, clubs and sports.
