Comcast v. Dish Network v. DirectTV and do we need a landline?

I may just give up cable, but I know DH won't be happy with that, and I guess our TV won't work without some fancy antenna? Anyway, I've had comcast for over 15 years (or whatever it was back then) and it's gone from $55 a month, to $34 a month, to now $78 a month. I'm pretty much done with it.
We have Century Link for our landline, which we don't use, msn for our internet provider, no Xbox or any kind of extra gadgets, much to hubby's chagrin. We don't watch movies much, except on TV. No netflix or blockbuster or anything like that. I don't want to change my email address as I have too much stuff linked to it.
Just want basic cable, with SciFi, HGTV, food network, standard channels. Tell me what you like, and maybe how to bundle?

Well, probably for another $25 or so over what you're paying Comcast, you could keep your tv channels (and I haven't heard of any public disputes between them and any broadcast companies ) for your husband, and if msn is dial-up speed up your Internet. And replace your landline. There's an active thread right now about Comcast landline service; mostly positive.

Only you can decide if you need one. I like the emergency aspect of it.

Dish does not require a landline. In fact I have 2 sets of relatives who have dish and live in their RVs full time. So obviously no landline, and they just get their signal wherever they happen to park.
