ComCast misadventures. Long RANT!!!!

I dont think that's legal.

The rule prohibits restrictions that impair a person's ability to install, maintain, or use an antenna covered by the rule. The rule applies to state or local laws or regulations, including zoning, land-use or building regulations, private covenants, homeowners' association rules, condominium or cooperative association restrictions, lease restrictions, or similar restrictions on property within the exclusive use or control of the antenna user where the user has an ownership or leasehold interest in the property.

I totally feel your pain. If we could choose anyone BUT Comcast, I would in an instant. We have had nothing but problems and each month is a new battle when the bill comes. then you call and no one can help you because they just don't have a clue how to do anything ! I hate having to call them because you have to mentally prepare yourself for the fight that you KNOW is coming. We'd do the DISH, but the reception is so horrible where we are, so we're stuck. and I hate it.

But know that you are not alone.....I don't know anyone that actually likes dealing with Comcast. Funny isn't it ? in a totally crappy economy you would think that you should protect your customers and really care about making your customers happy. Because what companies and employees really do forget is that the reason that we have our job is BECAUSE of the customers that buy our company's product. if there were no customers, they couldn't even have their job. They should think about that a little bit when they start "helping customers". (I use the term help very loosely).

So take a deep breath, put on the body armour and prepare for your battle !!

I can't have any external dish. I WISH I could do one of those dish or directTV deals. But for me it is cable or rabbit ears (in house only, nothing on roof). No other cable companies other than Comcast service my area. Probably one of the big reasons they are so bad. They know there is no other cable company to compete with.

I have also heard that it's not legal for homeowner's associations to deny you a dish. I know fighting with your HOA is not exciting, but you can report them to the FCC or question their policy.

In general, sorry for your issues with Comcast! We've had issues, but nothing like yours.

Here's my tip about Comcast or any of these companies:

If they have an online chat option USE IT!

Then when you're done, print the chat transcript and voila...you have instant proof of anything that YOU said and that THEY said. :thumbsup2

These are handy to fax to them when (if) they say that you said/did or that they didn't say/do anything you are telling them. It totally protects you.

So sorry...I feel your pain. I tried to downgrade my service last September with Comcast. I told them I had a cell phone and really didn't need the house phone anymore. I then spent the next fifteen minutes being lectured about some family that only had cell phones and no land line and needed emergency help. They dialed 911, but because the call bounced off a tower somewhere else, the call went to the wrong police/fire department. Well, you guessed it, the Comcast customer service woman told me the family didn't get help in time and the person died. All because they had no home phone. I couldn't believe this woman was attempting to terrorize me into keeping a home phone line with Comcast, so that a loved one in my family wouldn't die because emergency crews wouldn't be able to find my house.

I hate Comcast...yes HATE them. There is no other cable provider here either.

You may not attach a dish (or anything else) to a part of the property that you are normally not allowed to go onto for example the roof on many apartment complexes, or someone else's balcony on some complexes.

As far as things on you bill that you think should not be there, write a letter disputing those things and pay only what is left. For each new bill write another leter (or send a copy of the same letter if the items on the new bill are the same as on the previous bill).

... attempting to terrorize ...
If the 911 call gets dropped then someone could suffer as a result. Not to say that landline calls don't get cut off too. Now is it Verizon who advertises they have the fewest (cell phone) dropped calls? I have Verizon and get a lot of dropped calls.

You said you can not have an external dish, could you elaborate? I do have a reason for asking.

Yeah - it was REALLY wrong for the Comcast person to try to terrorize you, but between her and seashoreCM, they're right. 911 dialed from a land line can locate the caller under any conditions. 911 dialed from a cell phone? Not so much. Recently here, a woman was discovered in her car underwater after almost a year. According to news reports, she'd called her husband (and possibly 911) and reported being in the water - but all emergency services could do was "triangulate" her location within a two or three mile radius.

Now, I KNOW that's different. I KNOW a cell phone in a car in an emergency is in NO way equal to any type of wired land line anywhere. I'm just providing this as an example.

We have Verizon and almost NEVER have dropped calls. My BFF has AT&T and she always has dropped calls.

Well of course we can cancel the cable and keep the high speed, but it would cost us MORE if we did that then just leaving our service the way it is! LOL Trust me, we called, we used a whole Saturday calling everyone about this. It came out to $10-20 a month more to break it up so we just left it as is. Of course now in our area they are offering the triple play for $99 a month, unfortunately the only way to get the promo deal is to have DBF cancel the service and have me sign up under my name as a new customer......
Well, respectfully, what's more important - the money, or service with which you're 100% happy? And if you can get the promo price by becoming a new customer, why not do it?

Some folks can't do dish due to trees, tall buildings, and the angle of the window of their apartment.

Well respectfully, the money. :) :thumbsup2 Seriously, why change the cable if we have to keep Comcast for the high speed internet? The cable works, the internet works, I just don't like having NO options. Their customer service stinks (I work CS so I know how I should be treated) but the price for Comcast Triple Play is less then parting it out. As for getting the promo price for being a new customer, I feel dishonest doing that, I'm NOT technically a new customer, I just have a different name from DBF. But I'm considering doing it, if they won't extend that deal to someone who's been an EXCELLENT customer for 7 years there's something wrong with that......

We have the most basic cable package you can get in order to have high speed internet access. Never any problems and I'm connected (and usually doing something) 24/7. It used to be Adelphia until Comcast bought them out, maybe that makes a difference.

the reason I asked is because we put our dish on a pole beside the house because of tree cover and we would not allow DTV to install on our roof.

Oh how I feel your pain...except our is with Direct TV (be thankful you can't have a dish). :headache::headache:

I hate 'em all!

I dream of a day that I don't have to use Comcast for my cable/internet needs. We had a 6 month battle with them 3 years ago and thankfully no problems until recently. I had the same box for 3 years and called repeatedly about the DVR not working properly. They once told me my bill was past due and that is why it was not working, I told them they bill a month in advance and I was not paying that bill until my problem was resolved. She told me she could not help me, my problem had absolutly nothing to do with the bill. I finally convinced someone to send a service man out at the threat that I would pay heavily if there was no problem. Their only redeeming quality was that service man. He fixed it, we told him our horror stories and he appologized profusely and said many of our issues should have been fixed long ago. He also told us he was instructed to charge us for the visit but after seeing that my 3 year old box from Adelphia was indeed bad and that we had other issues with a cable that was run inccorectly years ago there was no way he was charging us.

I am sorry for your troubles, I have very rarely heard anything nice about their customer service (their phone service at least). I did email once about the horrible woman who got snoody because our bill was 3 days past due and insisted the problem with our box was the overdue bill. Even the repairman said he would not have paid it until it was fixed. Ok I have ranted long enough, down with Comcast!

I am moving in three weeks and called comcast today to check on a home phone bundle due to needing one for my job. I was connected right away and spoke to the guy for 40 minutes getting my package straight. I am saving $30 on my bill for comcast, $26 for paying a phone to my mother, and getting $100 gift card in 90 days. I did think about checking out dish but my boyfriend said he has had both dish and directv and we should stick to comcast. I have never had issues with comcast in the last 8 yrs that I have lived with my mom.
