Comcast Makes Offer To Buy Disney!!

Hmmmm even if they decided to sell, I'm not so sure they could get the federal backing to have the deal go through. It is a political year and this would be a huge merger. I just don't think congress and the FCC would approve it. Who knows though.

As I said before, I don't care for much of what Eisner has done of recent, but I don't think that good old Roy Disney is brimming with great ideas about running the company either.

I agree, I really don't understand all the support Roy is getting.

I don't like Eisner. I don't like Comcast. I don't like Comcast more.

I think the huge hurdle here would be legal. How would this not create a monopoly? If it even happens (I hope not), I don't know that legally it would get approval.

I would like to think the same thing but I wouldn't gamble on it. Keeping in mind the pro-big-business attitude of the current administration, republican majorities in both houses, and the fact that Congress just approved legislation allowing media companies to hold more subscribers and reach more markets, I think that the merger would be approved. :(

Will continue to hope though!

Love your Kerry tag! We'll be making improvements soon! :)

The odd thing to me is that Roy has been bashing Eisner because he has drifted away from Walt's dream. Comcast will drift much further! There is much speculation on the Disney Yahoo stock board that Roy is partially behind this. They make it sound like it is a way of sticking it to Eisner because Roy is angry. I hope it isn't true. I really hope that Roy would not sacrifice Disney to get revenge on Eisner. If Disney rejects Comcast's offer, it could be up to the shareholders to vote on the deal. I know how I'd vote. No! Maybe Bill Gates or Warren Buffet will come to the rescue!

I would really hope that Roy has nothing to do with this. It's one thing to be mad at someone, it's another to ruin everything your father and uncle lived for. I thought he was all about saving the name of DIsney, this is no way would do that.

Wouldn't that be a kicker?

All the Roy loyalists finding out that he was behind this just to put the final nail into Eisner?

Comcast promising Roy to put him on top? It sure makes sense that they would do that.

What would you all think if that turns out to be true?

I think the scenario that Comcast is trying to put Roy back in power is more than a little far-fetched. Of course, if it turned out to be true, I would be highly disappoined in Roy.

Oh I think you're probably right ead, although this rift and "savedisney" stuff has made Disney ripe for what took place today.

And I sure wouldn't be surprised if Comcast approached Roy at this point, knowing how popular he is and to give them some leverage with the stockholders.

I seriously doubt that Comcast would jettison the Disney name if they were able to get their hands on the company. They would probably adopt the Disney name and discard the Comcast name since it has such negative feelings associated with it, very much like when Valujet bought out AirTran.

The biggest thing that has made Disney ripe for what happened today wasn't SaveDisney (but that may have sped things up) but it is the reality that Disney Stock is undervalued, very much like it was in the mid 80s when it was a takeover target then as well.

Please say it isnt so???? Oh I hope not Disney would be like another big stinky Great Adventure!!Comcast Downright stinks! Their customer service is terrible,We switched to Dish network last year and have no problems since, the people are friendly and there is NO comparison to price!! I just really hope that this doesnt happen!

I just read that a shareholder has filed a class action lawsuit against Disney saying that they are depriving shareholders by not accepting the Comcast offer. I hate class action lawsuits. I am a shareholder and I don't want to be associated with this suit!

The good news is that the FCC is paying close attention to the whole thing and could possibly step in if they suspect that it would put Comcast in a position that would be unfair to competitors.

This puts Michael Eisner and Roy Disney both in the position of having a two front war on their hands, which is probably the golden opportunity Comcast is seeing. If nothing else, it looks as though the interest was good for the stock today.

Comcast is jumping on an opportunity to make a business coupe and probably doesn't care one iota about "family values" or "Disney traditions."

Eisner seems more interested in personal power and has a personal agenda that may not be in the best interest of the Disney Company. Unfortunately, Comcast may turn out to be a more formidable opponant than Roy and all his supporters.

Roy, I believe, has the best interest of the Disney Company and all of us who love it at heart. After all, his name is on all the packaging. Perhaps, he has a somewhat personal agenda in the form of a vendetta against Eisner, but a victory in this just might be the best long-term solution for us and all the investors.

If I have to choose where to hitch my wagon in this mess, I'll still side with Roy, if for nothing else than principle.

I'd be willing to lead a hostile take over... right down Main Street USA! :teeth:
