Comcast Makes Offer To Buy Disney!!

They are the ones that have caused the rift in the board, that has now given Comcast an opportunity to buy Disney. Institutional investors view things differently then the rest of us. They want the biggest return for their money, they don't care as much about the caompany as we do.

exactly.
U all think Eisner is doing a horrible job.....wait till comcast moves in , who could care less about theme parks and will sell them to some nobody and comes the end to anything magical.

Can we all admit it? Eisner may actually be standing up for the disney heritage by saying no thanks to comcast. Nope, cause we are all too mad at me for the terrible job he is doing. Sure he is...But u know what ...its nothing compared to what may happen..

This is like deja vu. Back in the 80s there was an entrenched board of directors, threats of hostile take overs and then a whole new board (Eisner) in place.

This is either the beginning of the end for the Disney Company or Eisner. It is pretty scary either way. Blame Eisner or Roy Disney but Disney stock is pretty undervalued (as it was in the 80s and has been long before Roy walked out) and is prime hostile takeover material. This probably wont be the last offer.

i really dislike eisner.

i also really dislike comcast.

those two feelings are not mutually exclusive. i am glad eisner told them to take a flying leap, but i really douubt it was because he was trying to save the company vision or something idealistic like that. more likely him just trying to save his own job. :rolleyes:

The problem here is if Disney had been managed properly over the past 8 years or so they would not be in a position where they are a target for a hostile takeover. Is part of that because of Eisner, I would have to say yes, but the events over the past 3 years didn't help either. I agree it would almost be better to break apart the company than to sell it to Comcast.

Comcast touts itself as a family friendly, professional organization when they move into your town...then you learn that the fees go steadily up while the service goes down. Disney would never be the same.

This is sooooo true, in the city I live in, they keep getting fines, and the city says it's going to look into other providers, but they never do and I don't think the collect the fines. I pray they don't get Disney, cause it would just be BAD.

I agree with you.::yes::

I went to savedisney.com and couldn't find any sort of comment from Roy. I wonder what he thinks of this. I wonder if this will push the board members to axe Eisner over sell to Comcast. Perhaps this will be a catalyst in voting "No".

No. It won't happen. Disney would never be the same. I have comcast digital phone and internet. I had the cable, but hated it. I don't like dealing with comcast anymore than I have too!!!

Sounds like a great deal to me - i say sell ::yes::

Glad to see old JP helping out to $$$$$$$

jj........ ::yes::

There will be a live feed of the investors meeting today at 12:30 at www.disney.com/investors for anyone interested. If you dont catch it then, they will be replaying it later on today.

Wishing everyone a "magical" day!:wave:

I've got it - we should all chip in and buy it ourselves!

If this should happen I think Disney would be in serious trouble. Comcast has a horrible reputation here in the Boston area. The minute they took over all the cable prices went up without notice. I'd almost rather deal with Eisner than them.

I own stock now, but would vote for that. Maybe we should all go to the stochholder meeting and take over.

Walt must be turning in his grave.

If Comcast succeeds in this hostile takeover, we can all say goodbye to the Disney we've come to know and love.

Believe me....as a lifelong resident of Philadelphia, I can tell you that Comcast has a deplorable reputation for customer service and satisfaction. They are a nightmare to deal with, and one can only assume it will carry over to anything Disney.

I wish there was something we could do to fight it. Disney's official investor's site indicates they are considering the offer.

I'm glad I'm going to WDW before the takeover becomes effective, because after it if finalized, Disney will be a disaster (just like all other Comcast venues).

Just read it, and IMHO it just sounds more like something they feel they had better put out there. Not really saying anything, just stalling for time maybe?

Does anyone really think things will change - i don't the mouse we still make money only more - seems a win win to me

Of course things will change. This happens all the time. Company A takes over company B. They say "We will be keeping the name, the long tradition of blah blah blah, and we don't anticipate any key personnel changes." Next thing you know, new signs are up, services disappear and layoffs are huge.

I can't say enough bad about Comcast. That company is steeped in a culture of customer loathing, wretched products & services, and practices that border on the criminal.

I was lucky enough to listen to the live feed from the investors meeting today at 12:30. They did address the Comcast deal, briefly without mentioning Comcast. Calling it "unfortunate". They mostly talked about Disney World today. They talked about the new attractions coming to DW. Stitchs Escape in MK opening in the Fall. Soarin' in Epcot a ride taken from California Adventures. A hang-gliding ride 40 feet above , feet dangling, a large movie screen that soars you above Orange Groves, Redwoods, with wind and scents to make you feel the experience is real. Opening in 2005. A stunt show in MGM based on a Paris attraction. Cars, motorcycles etc... performing amazing stunts with guest participation. This will open in 2005 also. They are also adding Chigcago and San Francisco land scapes to MGM backlot. The last attraction they mentioned was Expedition Everest which is being built in the Asia section of AK. It features a 199 ft Mountain. It will be a train ride with Coaster thrills. There will be mountains and Icy Canyons and a Yeti who will "haunt" the ride. Opening in 2006.

As much as I dislike Eisner, I do believe that he has had the right idea of keeping the Disney Company, name, and brand clear and free of mergers with other companies. (Not speaking of Disney aquisitions, like ABC.)

I just don't see a possible merger with Comcast as a good thing for Disney. I mean, do they want to be content oriented as they have been or do they want to become a distribution company?

Disney needs to stay Disney!
It's also interesting to consider the impact that Roy Disney's actions have had on this. Could it be that other media companies are seeing turmoil at Disney and now think it's a great time to attempt a merger?

As I said before, I don't care for much of what Eisner has done of recent, but I don't think that good old Roy Disney is brimming with great ideas about running the company either. Some of the statements that he has made about the Disney/Pixar deal would indicate that he was willing to strike a deal, even if it was detremential to Disney itself. I disagree with that totally!
