Comcast buys 51% of NBC Universal from GE

Just another dagger in what most view as free enterprise. When the government abandoned the anti trust laws all was lost. There will be no more 'what's good for the guest' ... only what's best for the bottom line.

Universal theme parks, however, will benefit from this due to the HUGE success of WWoHP and this will be good for all theme park fans for a few years at least. Disney will probably continue to 'respond' but mark my words, they are 'for sale' too.

The deal closed this weekend.

And all the full time TMs got a very nice gift from Comcast, from what I've heard...

Actually, this is a win for free enterprise. Perhaps you meant to say that it was a dagger in consumption. It definitely shows that government is returning to a balance between production and consumption, rather than tipping over entirely into a consumption frame-of-mind.

Don't Count on Disney being for sale. Comcast if you recall tried to buy Disney a few years ago but got shot down.

But I suspect this would be good for Universal as a whole... both the Studio and Theme Parks. why? Something very interesting that the President of Universal said during the big company-wide broadcast about the completion. He mentioned that since he's Worked for Universal, They've been owned by 6 different companies. Some have supported the studio, some ignored the studio, and some have outright screwed the studio. With this ownership change, he actually has the most positive outlook he's ever had upon the change because it's the first time the Studio has been owned by a media company.

I don't know specifically about themepark employees, but all articles i've read have indicated that All NBCU employees (which would include the Themeparks) received a "Big Ideas" book, a family pass for a Themepark of their choice (prob not that big a deal for Themepark employees), and also 25 shares of Comcast stock (Worth $22-$23 a piece as of Friday). the Stock alone could be a very nice bonus, especcially for someone making less than $10/hr take-home.
