How do you plan it? Disney first or Universal? Planning on RPR for a couple nights the next time we go which won't be for a while but I'm still planning.

We do Disney first because after staying on site at Universal you'll be spoiled by the FOTL perk. Also...Universal can be done at a much more leisurely pace which is nice for the end of the vacaton.
We stay on site at each place to make life easier.

Thats what I was thinking - Disney first then Universal. I didn't realize Universal resorts had the perks that they do. I think it would be the best to stay on site at each place. Plus I was thinking we could utilize ME if we went to Disney first and then catch a cab to the airport on the return trip.

Very exciting.

That sounds like a great plan to me! :thumbsup2

that's how i do it.

disney first then the best for last......universal.

i use car service for the 3 leg trip for the transportation.

I stay offsite so I mix the two resorts. I will say that Universal is easier to do even when staying offsite!

Thanks for the replies. In talking with some family members today at a 4th of July barbeque, it only took them 1 day to do both US/IOA. So perhaps we'll stay at a Disney resort the whole vacation and then catch a cab to US/IOA in the middle of our vacation. I need to research US/IOA some more and see whats there for us to do. I'm sure plenty.

Thanks again for the replies.

You're welcome but keep something in mind. Your friends could have gone at a slow time when it would be possible to do both parks in a single day...skipping attractions along the way. If you are going during a busy time, I can guarantee you won't be able to much in a single day and make it worth your while.

Stay outside the first day or two and hit Universal.

that is what we are planning for this summer.. offsite and do Universal then onsite for Disney.. (just can't afford onsite at Universal it is over $200 per night)

I can't imagine doing US and IOA in one day without FOTL. Even then, by hurrying through you miss all the details in the theming. These are not just parks with rides, but parks that have outstanding theming throughout that takes time to appreciate.

I know it is pricey but looks so nice. I'm going to research the other hotels around as well. Theres a Doubletree nearby I believe and someone mentioned Comfort suites. I'll do a google. Where are you staying?

we will be at One Hyatt Place.. it is supposed to be nice and has free parking..and we are supposed to be able to walk to US/IOA.. i got it for $85/night..

Good deal. Looks like a very nice hotel. .25 miles to US/IOA - sounds good.

I 100% agree..we always do Disney first and then move onsite to Universal for the FOTL perk, as well. Have fun!!! ;)

We just booked 2 weeks in Orlando.... first week onsite at Disney then 2nd week at Nickelodeon Family Suites! We are so excited to go and it's nice to see so many positive comments about Universal!

We are doing it the reverse way - staying onsite at Universal (in December), and taking a cab to Disney. 'Course, we are planning to hit only the MK for one day - that's our entire Disney portion of the trip. We plan to go to Universal the first three days, spend the one day at MK, then finish out at Universal. Lots of down/pool time in there.

Believe it or not, our 10 year old grandson is the one that set this up. After viewing the websites of both Disney and Universal he decided he wanted to spend more time at Universal. We went with it, since this trip is for him. Been to both so it doesn't matter to us.

I would definitely allow at least 2 days for Universal if you want to do both parks and not have to rush. We got the 7 day pass, but only went for 4 days. We saw everything we wanted to and rode all the big rides many times. For the most part we went at a leisurely pace. The first day we went to Universal at park opening and were able to ride the Simpsons, Men In Black, The Mummy, Disaster, and Jaws all within 90 minutes. Lines were very short in the morning. We then re-rode a few of the rides and headed back to our condo for an afternoon rest. We went to Islands in the evening and the lines were a bit longer, but we rode a few rides. We reversed our schedule the following day, hitting Islands first and were able to ride all of the big rides many times. I liked not having to rush and being able to spread our time out, but that is just my preference. We hadn't been to Universal since 2004 and were very impressed with the rides. I am a Disney fanatic, but I thoroughly enjoyed Universal. My kids (ages 9, 13, and 15) actually liked it better than Disney because of the thrill rides. As mentioned before, we stayed at a condo off site and really didn't have any problems.

Thanks for the replies. If its as relaxing as people say it is, we'll probably save Universal for last. Can't wait to go......someday.
