Last night I was able to get 2 separate BOG reservations at the same time to accommodate my entire party. If I call the reservation line will they combine them into 1 party of 8 instead of 2 parties of 4?

No, they usually will not. They will tell you if there was an opening to suit the requested party size, the system would have given it to you. They will tell you to speak with the seating hostess when you check-in for your reservation and if the restaurant is able to accommodate your request, that will be up to them...but don't count on it - BOG is usually at capacity.
They'll do the best they can to seat you together. Be prepared though to either wait past your ADR time or be seated separately if it doesn't work out.
I'm in the same boat because I booked a party of 7 very last minute. A number of meals we are at 2 different tables. Some meals we are at one table. For future reference if you have to book 2 adrs at the same time they can do this easily over the phone. We are applying the silver lining concept to the different tables and seating the children with 1 adult at one table and the rest of the adults at the other.
