Combining reservations at same resort?

I was wondering, if I book two reservations back to back at the same resort; for example, check-in January 1st, checkout Jan 4th and then check-in Jan 4th, checkout Jan 7th, will Disney let me combine the reservations so that we can remain in the same room for the entirety of the stay or is there a chance we will need to change rooms on the 4th? Thank you!

Yes, just let them know that it's a "continuing" reservation and it will be fine; I did this at YC once when I had a couple of days tacked on under a different discount offer. Phone CMs may not understand what you mean depending on which one you get so I would also go straight to the front desk as soon as when you arrive for the first stay to let them know.

If you wait until you arrive to discuss with the front desk, there is a chance the room you are staying in for the first part of the visit will have already been assigned to someone else for that second part of the stay. I would certainly call Disney prior to when they do room assignments to let them know your preference. I don't know if what you are trying to do will always work or might also depend on how full that resort happens to be.

From experience Disney phone CMs are not all versed in this specific terminology or process. Which is why I said *in addition* it should be confirmed with the front desk on arrival. Of course you call them beforehand lol I never said not to. It’s not an either or proposition. I was sharing first hand what I was told to do by actual front desk CMs. Even when you get a phone CM who understands what you mean, sometimes glitches happen in the system.

Clearly some Disney phone people are more adept at their job and try to be helpful instead of just guessing at the answers to questions. Times when I have gotten someone on the phone who either didn't know how to help or wasn't helpful, I would just call back an hour later and get someone else. Usually you can tell right away when someone knows what they are talking about.

When we have done this in the past, I would let the front desk CM know at check in that I had a second reservation. I was always told to check at the front desk the night before check-in/check-out to see if we could stay in our room. I once had to go back down to the lobby early that morning to find out if we could stay (we could). There was a chance they were going to switch us. Perhaps things have changed, but we were not guaranteed that we could stay in the original room.

Just to clarify the great information other members have posted. The only way for 2 separate reservations to be combined into (1) reservation is if Central reservations makes the change before you arrive. Even if you call and have your (2) reservations listed as a "Continuing Stay", you still have (2) different reservations.

Would your (2) reservations be in the same booking category at that would be the best option and easiest? Yes the Front may still be able to make some magic if you have (2) different room categories but it takes more work and some luck.

There is never a Guarantee that you will be able to stay in the same room but the Front desk will try very hard to make it happen. It really comes down to room scheduling and what the room assigner(s) may need to adjust. As @Marthasor posted above the Front desk may want you to stop by the evening before your first room check-out morning to confirm that you are all set to continue your second reservation in the same room.

We did this last year at OKW. I booked a cash stay but got my dates wrong and we needed one additional night. I rented DVC points for that one night since WDW did not have a cash night available. I tried calling to link the 2 reservations; the phone CM made a note of it but said it couldn’t be guaranteed. When we checked-in, I mentioned the 2nd reservation and asked if we could please stay in the same room. We were told there was no problem keeping the same room.

While there is never any guarantee, if both your reservations are the same category there is almost no chance you will have to move. Probably only if the first room is an accessible room you don’t need but someone else does. It works in Disney’s favor to keep you in the same room as well as yours. Think about it…one less room housekeeping has to turn over. Why would they make you move to a newly cleaned room & make some other guest wait for your old room to be cleaned? If the rooms are different categories tho all bets are off. You’d need pixie dust with 1 of the reservations or maybe offer to stay in the lesser category for it to work in that circumstance. Definitely call ahead of time to have them noted as continuing reservations to make it easier for the room planners. Still stop at the desk on check in the first day. They have been able to see my 2nd reservation & let me know we will stay in the same room. In the old days we did to check in for the 2nd reservation that morning. The last time we did it with online check in, we were all set after the first check in & did not need to do anything when the 2nd reservation started. The front desk will let you know what you need to do.

We have did this a few times. Make sure that the room type is the same IE both standard view... I always call to have this added to our reservation and then a couple of days before leaving I call again to verify. During the trip, I payoff our room charges every couple of days with GCs and during one of these times I will mention our 2nd reservation so they can check. We have never had to switch rooms.

Most likely you’ll be fine, make sure to talk to the front desk on arrival before entering your first room.

BUT be willing to move. There is always that 1% chance you have to move.

Sharing my experience doing this just last night. We had a one night water view king bed room at WL later this year then the next 6 nights were the same room type at WL as well. We could not get all 7 nights of that room type together through the WDW site and that's why there were two reservations. I called the help line last night and the CMs were able to combine the two reservations into one and apply the funds from one to the other, or I could have opted for a refund of one of the reservations too. It took a little time for them to do it but now I don't have to go to the front desk to deal with it when we arrive.

We have had to combine two ressies several times as we could not get the dates all on one. I have learned to call and ask the answering CM to speak to guest services about combining my ressies. (they have always been for the same room). Guest service will combine them and I just kept both deposits on the room so I had two nights already paid. However, one of the biggest bonuses is that now with one ressies you can make all of your dining plans at one time and NOT 60 days from the start of each ressie. Only guest services can do this! So go the extra mile and ask for them if dining is important to you.

Thanks for asking this question. My family's vacation runs Saturday - Thursday. Today I found that I could apply the Fall/holiday promo to the Sunday-Thursday portion of our stay at WL. The Saturday had rooms available, at full price. I called and now have two separate reservations at WL. One for Saturday night (no discount) and one for Sun-Thursday (promo applied), same room category. When the telephone CM finished up modifying our existing reservation, I still needed her to take care of my second room (for son & his family), and an hour had passed. I wanted to add the promo again to my son's Sun-Thursday night stay and pay full price for the Saturday. The CM was unable to make that happen for us. She put me on hold several times and was so disappointed to tell me that no promo was available now for my son. It feels like it's turning into a sh*t show - all because I wanted to take advantage of the discounted rooms/4 day park hopper promo. She was able to divide my son's reservation and add the ticket promo at least. She suggested I call back and check in the future.
I put down the $200. on my cc - but the second reservation(s) have not shown up in my Disney experience yet. The CM said it could take 24 hours.

Thanks so much for your insight. I will need to try to have my two reservations combined. Character dining for this trip is important to us.

Does the rooms show up to book with the discount on the website? It has to be available for a new reservation in order to apply it to an existing reservation. You may have gotten the last available discounted room for your reservation. If it shows with the discount on the website, maybe book it as a new reservation for the Sunday - Thursday, then cancel the existing one.

Yes - I believe you're right. I called as soon as I saw the availability online for both Saturday and then Sun-Thursday, same category. My room was the last discounted room available. When CM tried to book my son's room, nothing was left. I'll keep looking myself and hope I get lucky.

Keep looking, especially starting a month out (packages have to cancel) until right up to the start of your stay. I think I’ve picked up the most deals I wanted that I missed in initial releases in the last 14-2 days before my trip started.

My response was strictly in reference to combining the two reservations. The first reservation number is used and remained the same for the entire reservation and the second reservation number was discarded. At no time did I try and change or apply any discounts. This is strictly combing two reservations that are on consecutive dates in the same room category to create one reservation.
