Combining Points?

My husband and I took the presentation at SSR in May and bought 160 points that day. We have been reading this board ever since, but this is our first post. On my first day back to work after vacation, my manager announced that our team would probably be breaking up because of a merger, so we cancelled the sale. I have since gotten a better job, and now that we've had time to think, we have decided on a resale. My question is, if we were to purchase 150 points from one resort and 50 from another, for example, would each resort be our "home" resort? Can that be done? And how does the timeshare store work? Are those real listings? We contacted them Friday about the SSR resale but by the next day, I saw that it was listed with "sale pending". What do we have to know before anyone calls us? Are we put on a "waiting" list for something to come up or is that just Disney? We are thinking of taking a quick trip just to check out the resorts to decide which one, but would they let you look at the resort for a resale?

Hi! Welcome to the Disboards!

Each resort you purchase points from will be your "home resort", and yes, it can be done, you can have multiple home resorts. However, you can only use the # of points that you have purchased at each home resort (times 3, if you use banked and borrowed points, i.e. if you purchase 50 points at BWV, and want to make a standard view reservation, you'll only be allowed to use up to 150 points every 3 years, or 50 points every year) to take advantage of the 11 month window at that resort.

If you want to buy resale, then I'd suggest calling the Timeshare Store (and maybe even a couple of other re-salers), and tell them the size contract you'd like to purchase, your ideal use year, and of course, the resort you'd like to purchase it at. Give them your phone #'s and they will call you as soon as they have a contract you might be interested in. A lot of contracts are sold before they even hit the internet sites.

As far as checking out the other resorts, I don't believe that you can do this even with DVC, as the only sales center/models are all at SSR only now. If you have a friend who owns DVC, maybe you could check with them. I kind of doubt that you'll be able to find a cast member cleaning who would let you have a peek inside, but you never know.

Good Luck with your decision!

But if you buy or sell points, you can transfer them into another member's account. Could we transfer one resorts points into the other resorts points to use for the 11-month window? For example, if I wanted to stay at BW and I had 100 points, I could "buy" points and transfer them into the BW account right? So if I owned 100 points at BC for example, couldn't I transfer the 100 points from BC to BW and use the 11 months window for the 200 points?

Transferred points retain their original Use Year and Home Resort status.

Disney is not allowed to oversell points at any resort- if they allowed members to use non-home points prior to the 7 month period, it would effectively mean that they had oversold points at that resort.

As for visiting the DVC resorts, the Preview Center does a nice job of offering a virtual tour of each of the resorts, but you can also (on your own) go to the resorts and inquire at the front desk about seeing the rooms. If they have any available, they are usually happy to give you a peek.

Enjoy!

Doc gave you the official word and I think that's what you should make your decision on. Still, the DVC computers don't track points very well so you might actually be able to do what you suggest TEMPORARILY.
