combining gift cards

Does anyone know if you can combine the value of multiple Disney gift cards into one card? We're planning to go to WDW next spring, and I'm asking my mom and aunt to give Disney gift cards to DD2 and DD4 for Halloween/Val. Day/Easter (instead of the truckload of candy/dollar-store trinkets they usually get for the girls!) Just wondering if this strategy will mean I'll have to keep track of a bunch of $10 cards, or whether we can take them to the Disney store before we leave to get each girl one card with her spending allowance.

they can be added to, but not combined, sorry.

Why don't you ask them to buy Disney Dollars instead? You can buy them at the Disney Store, and the great thing is that if they are not all spent (yeah right!) then you can exchange them back into regular cash.

On our last trip our girls had both the gift cards and the disney dollars. I would go with the dollars. They seemed to understand the value of their money better when actually seeing the dollars diminish in their fanny packs..! Plus, our DD lost one of her gift cards that still had a balance of $37. If you plan on exchanging back any unused disney dollars once you get home, you'll need the receipt from the original purchase.

Thanks for the advice! I think we'll go with the Disney dollars. DD4 will be thrilled to pay with her own "money." When we're shopping, she always asks to give the clerk the money. But I always use my debit card and am lucky to have $1 cash in my purse! :rotfl: This way she can carry a couple dollars to feel grown up, and I can keep the rest safe.

I am a big collector of Disney Dollars and have been for years, but I recommend that when saving for a WDW trip you put most of your money in gift cards instead of DD$.

Disney Gift Cards can be replaced if lost or stolen; all you need is the original purchase reciept (obviously, you will need to keep the reciept safe and in a different location than the gift cards). DD$ are just like cash - if you lose them, they're gone, gone, gone, for ever.

A certain amount of DD$ for kids is fine, just make sure to put the bulk of your vacation funds in the more secure (and far less bulky) Gift Cards.

Keep in mind also that you can add money to your gift cards at any Disney Store, so you won't have to buy a ton of $10 cards; I add $20 to my card every payday to save for my trip.

And another thing to consider is that you can use Disney Dollars or your Disney Gift Cards as a deposit to enable rook key charging when you stay at a WDW resort, instead of a credit card. This is one way that you can consolidate if you have several gift cards.

Does anyone know if you can use a Disney Gift Certificate to pay for your dining plan when you get to the resort if you are renting points from a DVC member? We are renting points, the owner is arranging the dining plan for us, and we will pay for the plan at the resort upon arrival. We have a gift certificate to Disney World, can we use it to pay for that?
Thanks!

I called the front desk at the resort to see if Gift Cards could be used to pay the Dining Plan. They said yes.

You can also use them to just apply to your room account.

Thanks for the info. This helps a lot. My husband won a gift certificate at work, and this will be great for paying for the dining plan. Thanks again!
