Combination sunscreen/bug repellent

Does anyone have any experience with combination sunscreen/insect repellent? I'm gathering stuff fro my daughter to go to camp and don't want to waste maoney on something that doesn't work!

I get ours from Avon every year. Works good, and it's not too strong.

I got Bull Frog spray last year. I'm not sure how well it works because my kids couldn't stand the smell of it so I quit using it, it was really bad.

I have one made from Off and one from Bullfrog. Both work very well. The bullfrog one was in a spray and did not smell that bad.

A word of caution w/ the combo (I'm an Avon rep & sell LOTS of bug guard w/ SPF...) they are great to use toward the end of the day...BUT it is not meant to be re-applied all day & night. Use regular sunscreen all day until the bugs come out...then you can use it. This goes double for the kids.

Works great...but not safe chemical wise to reapply the number of times you SHOULD be reapplying sunscreen...like every 1-2 hrs depending on your activities (more during swimming or sweating KWIM?)

So, my advice to the OP for camp...buy both. Regular sunscreen for normal days, combo for near sundown or very buggy days...or just buy separate & save the worry.

I don't buy the bug guard at all. Don't tell Avon.

It is not advised by many doctors to use the combination stuff as you need to reapply the sunscreen throughout the day and you do not want that much bug repellent on your children. Our ped has always recommended to use them seperately so the kids are not getting too much of the DEET or other bug repellent or too little sunscreen from the inability of reapplying often.

Good point about reapplying! She'll also wear a rashguard(hopefully) to protect her Irish skin! It is a girl scout tent with flaps...they were told to bring mosquito netting for their beds. How about for ticks-any natural tick repellents?
