Columbus Georgia Anyone?

Anyone live in/around or familiar with Columbus, GA? We are looking at Columbus for possible relocation w/ DH's work, so I wanted to get a little info about the area. Can anyone suggest nice areas with good schools?

I grew up in Atlanta and we both went to school at Auburn, so I'm familiar with those areas, but not to much the places in between.

Well, I used to stay in Columbus ALOT when my DH was at Ft. Benning. My best friend lived in Columbus for about 4 years as well and I would visit her frequently. To tell you the truth, I really liked Columbus, but I liked the "military" atmosphere of it. But I don't know if its the kind of place I would want to live in or just visit. I have fond memories because I was visiting DH who was then just a boyfriend at the time. Its pretty spread out and their seemed to be alot of condo's, apts. etc. Mostly filled by military people. I remember the "historic" district was really nice with quaint streets, but again, this was 10 years ago, so I don't know how much times have changed.

We both also went to Auburn (War Eagle!), and have been living in the Columbus area for the last 6 years. We live in Midland, and we are very pleased with the schools (we have 3 kids in 3 schools --elementary, middle and high school). The area is growing by leaps and bounds --they're building new subdivisions almost every week, it seems. Please feel free to PM me if you'd like more info!
