I have just found out Monday 12th October is Columbus Day and that this is a national holiday. We were thinking of going to MNSSHP that day, should we book a different day?

Any advise about how busy the parks get during Columbus day / weekend would be much appreciated. Also, which parks are best to visit and avoid during this time?

From what I have read - the parks will be busier but it shouldnt affect them too much. Were going to go to a water park and Downtown Disney that day instead (but we tend to avoid the theme parks at weekends anyway). :)

It seems to be a day off that not everyone gets in the US so apparently it doesn't affect crowd levels in the parks as badly as most of the other public holidays. I would avoid MK though, I imagine that's the one most people would choose if they've only come for the day.

Thanks for the advice - I'll change my schedule (again!)

I asked this question previously as we went to MK on Columbus day a year or two back and it was packed like sardines and I would definitely not go near a park on that day again (we did not know at the time that it was a holiday!)

Someone said that a lot of Americans do work on this day as it was only a minor bank holiday but it certainly did not seem so to us. We will be there also on Columbus day this year and will more than likely go shopping or just chill out by the pool!!

I'm sure we could manage a shopping day :thumbsup2 Any recommendations for somewhere fairly near WDW?

:thumbsup2 Agree nannyj.

Silly busy last year !!!!

Thing is, Monday is supposed to be the busiest day of the week at MK anyway (nearly all the crowded day charts i've ever read have said this) so combine this with a public holiday even when it's not one everyone has off then it will probably be crowded. We'll be going to Epcot, I find it never feels as 'intense' with crowds (having visited during peak summer season) as the other parks :) It's our first full WDW day so don't really want a rest day at the point.

Thanks for the advice. We've decided to go to MNSSHP on 8th October instead and avoid the parks as much as possible on the 12th - although not completely because it will be our last day in WDW :sad1:
