Anyone go last year. We are planning Oct 6-9. Thursday - Sunday. Columbus Day is Monday.
How are the crowds for this weekend??

They may be a little more crowded than usual this year. I know alot of schools in our area (LI and NYC) are closed for 2 days the week prior for the Jewish holidays, off on Columbus Day and off 1 day for another Jewish holiday that week. (Yom Kippur and Rosh Hashannah, sorry about spelling!)

The unofficial guide has it at 5 and 6. I wonder if they are right or if they will change it. This last trip in June was 8 and 9s but it really didnot seem that crowded. Was anyone there last year? How does it compare to summer?

I plan on being there from October 1-9th. I know the Sunday and Columbus day have higher numbers on the UG website and in the book.

I am going Oct 5th-11th...and I also am getting a little worried that it will be busier than other Octobers. We usually go in October and have very manageable crowds. But....I am thinking this year might be heavier for a couple of reasons. The free dining plan...it was valid for travel thru 10/4...when I inquired about it , the disney rep said as long as you checked in by 10/3, it would include any day after. Also, several schools around me ( near Philly) are also closed because of two Jewish holidays as a previous poster pointed out, this coupled along with Columbus Day could increase the crowds. I am HOPING that with some careful planning, that the crowds won't be all that bad, and I still can't imagine they will be anywhere close to summer/christmas/easter crowds. I could be WAY off....but that is what I am thinking. Hope everyone has a GREAT vacation....I started my 90 day window today YEA!!!!!!

I think you are right. June was crowded but entirely manageable. We are looking at Thursday night to Sunday afternoon. I am hoping they wont be too bad.

We were there last year the first week of October. We left on Saturday before Columbus Day. We noticed crowds increasing on Thursday -- still not really bad, but larger than they had been all week. Friday was our "down" day, where we went to BB, DTD, and then we went back to MGM to see Fantasmic! one last time. We did wait for nearly an hour for the show, but had no problem getting great seats. We also went back to MK on Saturday morning for one last time. Getting there at opening, we had no problems getting on rides. DS & I rode the Buzz Lightyear ride 3x walk on, while DH & DD rode Space Mtn. They didn't have much of a wait either. By the time we left, around 11:30, it was getting more crowded. My advice would be the standard -- get there early and use Fastpass.

Have fun!
Christy

We were there last year Columbus Day Sat and Sun in the MK were busy. Long waits. I would try to avoid MK these days. We have been in Oct for the past 7 years. Last year seemed to be the busiest. :guilty:

I have to agree with hauntedmansion, last year seemed to be busier than I was used to in mid-October. That being said, I didn't think it was bad at all. We rode everything we wanted to, often more than once...it just called for an expert use of the fast pass :)

We are leaving on October 8 to stay through the 14th...Frankly, even a crowded day at WDW is better than ANY day at work!!! :rotfl:

Columbus Day does get busy. With Food & Wine extended to the beginning of October last year, and the Jewish High Holidays, plus the usual Columbus Day and Canadian Thxgiving, plus a UK bank holiday. So lots of folks making a long weekend or even a week out of it. I seem to recall a school break in the UK around that time too, which makes for more folks than just a bank holiday.

We're doing Food & Wine from our DVC 'home' at BWV and the kids are missing two days of school. We did Veterans' Day last year, but Super Soap Weekend made MGM essentially off-limits for regular touring folk (the other parks were great tho). Vets' Day really threw off our Xmas preparation schedule tho, so we won't be doing that again, plus Columbus Day means we can do MNSSHP, which is always so much fun.

We went last year oct 6th thur the 11th wed thru monday
The weather was beautiful! Not a drop of rain. 80-85degrees The crowds were fine up until Saturday
at MK.......The morning was fine but later on in the afternoon and evening
was really bad. Holiday Weekend brings out the crowds.
The food/wine festival was great/Many new countrys to sample.
We had the best time in epcot during this festival.
Looking back we should of not done MK on a Saturday.
But it was a great trip/i wish i was going in October this year.
We are leaving in 12 days for the WL. :cool1:

UK school holiday is the last week of October (schools break 21 October), so many people will go for this week & pull their children out for the week before or the week after. We however are just pulling DD out of school and going 9-16, so hoping to miss the worst of the Columbus day crowds as most people seem to be going before rather than after the Monday. Were there in 2003 for Columbus Day & hit MK which was bust but still doable, although if you didn't have a PS, there was no seating available at CP until 7pm (this was the message at 11.30am)
