Columbus Day weekend or weekend after?

I'm trying to choose a weekend for this coming fall (2017), two 6 year olds and 2 adults. We will definitely go to a MNSSHP one night. I usually avoid holidays, BUT- can anyone please tell me their experience and/or opinion on crowd levels for Columbus Day Weekend? Or we can go the weekend after as well.
The only reason I would go CDW is because I know people that will be down there at the time and the kids have off school.
However, to avoid a crowd surge I would go the weekend after. I do realize that October in recent years can be a busy time of year, I go every year in October- but I've never been CDW.

I would avoid Columbus Day weekend if at all possible. We have visited 4 of the past 6 years that week and the crowds continuously increase closer that weekend, making Thursday onward very crowded.

Crazy busy. If you have a choice go later.

A Holiday weekend will always be busier than a non Holiday weekend.

We were checking out last year on that Thursday night before Columbus day. We definitely saw the uptick in crowd levels. Even the lobby of the CR was crazy busy.
