Columbus Day Weekend - Express?

We're going Columbus Day Weekend in October. It is a holiday weekend, so I'm expecting longer lines than normal, but I don't know if I want to foot the money for Express. We're early risers and will definitely be there at park opening. I figure we can hit the most popular rides in the early hours and the less popular in the afternoon when the longer lines hit. Does that sound ok or am I underestimating Columbus Day Weekend?

The best advice I can give is to wait until you arrive and decide if you need them...depending on the crowds of course. You can purchase the passes at either park...should the wait times start rising. If you're going to be there at opening, you should have no problems hitting the bigger attractions before the crowds show up.

i have gone the columbus day weekend for the last 4 years.

on monday, columbus day, the park starts getting the crowds around 1ish.
in the morning it is very light there.


i stay on site and don't have to worry about the lines but still go at 8:30 in the morning to hit the hulk and the mist first thing in the morning.

go to the park early, if need be due to crowds, buy the express pass then.
