I plan WAY in advance for our trips (as you can see by my 400+ day timer!). I'm trying to decide whether to skip the parks and do something else on Columbus Day (2005). We will go on Sunday, but may not go on Monday. This is the plan we followed this year on President's Day weekend, and it was manageable. I didn't think the Sunday crowds were too bad (AK, MGM), but I knew from research that Monday (President's Day) would be crowded.

So my question is: How does Columbus day weekend compare to President's day weekend crowd-wise? We still plan to go on Sunday, but are not sure about Monday (Columbus Day). Any advice from October veterans is appreciated!:)

I can't answer about President's day but I can tell you that your Columbus day is also our Thanksgiving and many Canadians take advantage of the long weekend. We were there last year and to tell you the truth I did not find the crowds bad at all on Columbus day. We usually go in April and I found it a bit lighter- crowd wise than April.

We also went last Oct (11-18) and didn't feel that the crowds were overwhelming. The one day that we did see crowds swell was that Friday (the 17th). I think Florida schools had the day off or something. Other than that Friday, it was fine.

We are going back again this year, same time frame. Good luck.

P.S. Don't feel that you plan TOO far in advance. I am planning a Disney Cruise for Oct. 2006! hahaha

I can add that President's weekend has been traditionally busy.
DD and I have gone the last 3 years and many people take advantage of a Florida trip to get through the rest of the winter!
However, it's not busy enough that we won't go!

We are going over Columbus Day this October, for the first time.
We plan on being in Epcot on Saturday, as it's my birthday and I can't think of a better day than the Food and Wine Festival!

We will do MK on Monday the 11th and I do expect crowds.

Cheerio :hyper:

We'll be there over CD weekend as well -- though leaving Monday. Terry, we'll be at Epcot F&W Sat. as well! Can't wait -- but a birthday to celebrate would be even more fun!

We're going to mnsshp Friday night -- in January we went for our first family WDW trip and hit MK only, and in spades, so we feel we know the territory and can soak up atmosphere while hitting the "biggie" rides for us.

None of us has ever been to Epcot, or MGM! So crowds or no, we're gonna have some fun -- and I too did some preliminary checking on CD weekend and was told by most post-ers that it's manageable.

I've done both.

President Day has higher crowds, mix of temperatures (weather wise), less things in Rehab and longer park hours.

Columbus Day has lower crowds, Warm days (definitely swimming weather), Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party, and Shorter Park hours with more things in Rehab.

A Lot of the North East has no school on Presidents Week, they only get one day of for Columbus Day, that's why the crowds are bigger.

In the end, your at Disney.. Have a Great Time! :earsgirl:
