I heard that the week of Columbus day this year was REALLY crowded and want some opinions -

I have to go Next October to Disney - my DVC points aren't available until Oct. 1 and my Annual pass expires OCt. 23 - so we planned to go next October -

my sister decided to take her kids for their first trip next October and I don't think she really wants us to be there the same week - just to overlap a weekend - although she did say it would be okay if we came the same week -

anyway to go a different week than her we would have to go the week of Columbus day -

do you think the crowds were bad b/c of the hurricanes or are they always bad? Which week would you go?

We were at the parks from October 7-12. The crowds just before and through the holiday were not that bad. However, we did attend the MNSSHP on October 8 and found it was very crowded. Friday (10/8) at MGM was more than managable - Saturday at Epcot was the same - Monday at AK was busy (it rained like crazy) but again not bad. We returned to MK on Tuesday and the crowds seemed slightly larger. I spoke to a few other guests who said that they had taken the whole week of Columbus Day off from school. Several groups told us that they had been rescheduled due to the hurricanes. We have been at the parks during April vacation and were thrilled that October didn't seem to draw quite as many people. Go and enjoy!! Try not to stress about crowds.

You don't have to wait until October to use your DVC points. You could "borrow" them from your 10/05 use year allotment and go in September instead.

I didn't arrive until Oct. 20 and the crowds were good for us (except weekends). My friends were there the week before (so the week you're talking about). They said it was horrible. The waits were unbelievable. The oct. 8 party was the only party that sold out in addition to the last 2 parties (29th & 31st). I'm thinking that the hurricanes had a big impact on the crowds. But with Colombus day being a holiday, most families will choose that time. Just because you and your sister are there the SAME time, doesn't mean you have to bond. We often go our own way when we are with family and friends and meet up for meals.

I am planning on going for 10 days and need to borrow into my 2006 allotment for the 2005 trip (using two years of points).

I agree but she seems really wierd about it so I am not sure what to do - she is the kind of person who would feel bad doing this - I am not!
