Columbia Harbour House menu changes

My husband and I are really upset about the menu changes that have been reported at Columbia Harbour House. This has been our favorite WDW counter service.....by far! We have loved getting the 1/2 sandwich with soup entree. Not only are they NOT offering that anymore, but our favorite sandwich....the Starboard Deck....has also been taken off the menu. Why, why, why is WDW doing this? Is it because of the DDP, and they want to standardize everything? Pretty soon there will be the same food offered at every restaurant. Only the surroundings will be different.

We have always looked forward to our stop for lunch here while in the MK. We would both get 1/2 of the Starboard Deck sandwich, with the clam chowder. YUM!!! This is just so sad.

Have you seen the new menu posted anywhere? I thought they got rid of chicken fingers, but then saw someone posted they had them last week. It is our favorite counter service at MK, so, I'm hoping there haven't been that many changes!!

Just ate here on Sunday, didn't notice the menu changes but I wasn't really looking. I always get the Anchors Aweigh sandwich. Once again I was the only person eating upstairs, it was so realxing & peaceful to watch the Steam Boat & HM in the air conditioning!

No, I haven't seen the menu myself. I'm going off of info that was in the Allears Weekly newsletter at the end of April. It was in the "Allears Hears" section, which contains info from readers' emails. However, there weren't any retractions to it in the newsletter last week. It wasn't "official", but it did sound like it was true, since there were new substitutions given for some items taken off.

Readers had reported that the 1/2 sandwich & cup of soup had been removed in mid-March. The Starboard Deck sandwich and the Galley Salad had been removed near the end of April. Columbia Harbour House was instead offering some kind of a turkey sandwich and a harvest salad. The original items were not only tasty, but unique. If this is indeed true, they have substituted them with ordinary fare. Another "standard" menu item, which are no doubt "cheaper" for Disney to serve. Better for Disney? Not for us.

i hope they haven't gotten rid of the chicken fingers! :sad1: they are my favorite!:sad2:

The chicken fingers aren't gone, they just changed them to a healthier version. I can't tell the difference.

Definitely a bummer - on the Starboard Deck in particular as it was a favorite of mine. I hope the new offerings are something unique vs. more of the same old, same old we seem to be experiencing of late. Anyone have any details on the new turkey sandwich and harvest salad?

a co-worker of mine was in disney last week and just mentioned she'd had the "new" chicken strips at columbia harbor house - she said they were smaller in size, but tasted pretty much the same as before - when i pressed on asking "but were they still all extra crispy??!!" - she just said they were OK - in summary, she wasn't much help....

No more Starboard Deck?!? No more broccoli slaw?!? Oh no!! :sad2:

There's so little food in MK that I actually enjoy. In fact, the absence of this one sandwich brings me down to approximately zero entrees in that park.

I guess we'll just have to start bringing our own food to that park, just like we do with the local Six Flags. ;)

They aren't chicken STRIPS anymore...they are chicken NUGGETS.
And no, while they do not *taste* different (same vendor I expect) they are much smaller. Where you used to get 3 strips you now get 5 nuggets, and about 2-3 nuggets equal one strip. IMO they are NOT as crispy as the strips...mine weren't anyway, though it is possible they had been sitting around for a little while. Also I read somewhere that they aren't exactly the same as before because these new nuggets contain dairy where the old strips did not. They do not contain obvious "filler" or gristle, they do appear to be white meat, they just aren't as thick, juicy, or crispy as the strips were. If you are jonesing for the *taste* of the WDW chicken, they might possibly satisfy you in that regard, but I for one was mightily dissapointed in the obvious attempt at downsizing.

Chickengate indeed.:sad2:

(If they DARE touch the strips on DCL -I hear they are still intact there- I will be one DISgruntled DISer!!!);) And not to mention some are whispering about the recent dissappearance of the Ken's Honey Mustard dipping sauce!!

I dined there two weeks ago and they still had the Starboarddeck and broccoli slaw. they did not have a turkey sandwich then.

I wrote to Disney about this and actually received a phone call back.
The woman assured me that "they have the same great taste, but they are nuggets now". I expressed to her my extreme disappoint with this and she told me to try them and that she hoped this didn't put a damper on my Disney trip.

I am SO not happy with this!!!

Uh oh. My sister is a vegan and they had a sandwich there that was one of the few meals at a CS that she always really enjoyed. I hope that it isn't the one they discontinued. She can only eat so many veggie burgers or garden salads over a weeks time.

It's also a shame they changed from chicken stips to nuggets. It was enough for my mom and I to share before, my guess is that's why they've changed to the smaller nuggets.

Just in case you ever visit Six Flags Great America (outside of Washington, DC), you may want to skip the smuggled food. According to my kids they check everything just short of a cavity search before they let you through the gates there. :scared1:

That's Six Flags -- plenty of security to keep you from bringing a sandwich into the park, but none to keep the teenagers from running wild.

They do that at ours, too, but we just leave it in a cooler in our car and proudly walk out of that cesspit of putrid so-called "food" (I've never smelled food that smells as awful as what they sell there) and eat fresh fruit, vegetables, and cold cuts in our car, then head back in to enjoy the thrill rides. :thumbsup2

I wouldn't actually do that at MK (no car, for one), but if they don't offer me anything good to eat, I certainly won't be forced into eating whatever they offer!

Thank you! That's very good news for us broccoli slaw lovers. :lovestruc I hope they keep all their great sandwiches on the menu.

Just curious - were you dining there this month, or last?

Big fan of the Lighthouse Sandwich - I hope that stays on the menu. Allears only has a menu as recent as February. If anyone can update that here (or send it to allears) that would be very helpful! We just went to CHH for the first time last trip and it was great - can't wait to go back. We will definitely give it another try despite any changes.

Perhaps there's a bit of targeted enforcement going on. I've been to SFA (other Six Flags' parks) several times in the past four-five years, and don't once recall anything like an intrusive search.

Then again, I haven't been a kid in a long long time. ;)
