Colorado DISers ... where are you ?

ScubaMickey - The Broadmoor is a nice hotel, I loved it when I stayed there. Will you be able to enjoy their Sunday brunch? Their brunch is suppose to be amazing.

I am very excited about staying at the Broadmoor. Unfortunately, we will be staying one night, Thursday, and then heading back to Westcliffe on Friday. We are picking friends up at the airport. This will be their first trip to Colorado.

I have seen the Sunday Brunch on the Travel Channel and it looks yummy. We are going to try the Pub. I think it is called the Golden Bee or something like that. This is a trip dedicated to just having fun, so no fussy dinners at the fancy restaurants. Which restaurant did you try?

Yea, a Colorado thread! :cool1: I live in Castle Rock and its great to see some more Coloradans. Do most of you frequent WDW or DLR? I've been to both, but will be doing DLR a little more often since my in laws live there and are not able to come here as often. Have a wonderful day and here's hoping that we have had our last big snowstorm of the season!

The Golden Bee is awesome! So much fun. We used to eat there when we went to the Colorado Music Educator's Association Conference (the only reason I've been able to go to the Broadmoor) and always had a good time. Are you doing anything else in Colorado Springs while you're there? I was wondering, because the Broadmoor is right by the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, which I've also always really enjoyed.

The one night package we booked with the hotel comes with a 50% discount on zoo tickets. We have never been to the Cheyenne Zoo, but we have been to the Denver zoo. We also have never been to Pike's Peak and we are so short of time. Any thoughts on which adventure to take? We both love the outdoors, my husband is a Forester for the Florida Division of Forestry, and we enjoy visiting local culture. Soooo much to do and soooo little time!

I am glad the Golden Bee is awesome...We are looking forward to just having a blast on this trip.

As far as I am concerned a zoo is a zoo. If you have never been to Pikes Peak then that is the adventure I recommend. Pikes Peak is gorgeous. However, by taking the Cog you miss some of the spectacular views that you get by car. Personally, I would drive it if you don't mind driving something like that. You won't be disappointed. By driving you can stay as long as you want or leave as early as you want. Val is right. Remember the water.

Remember to DRINK the water, LOL! Carrying it around doesn't benefit you atl all! It helps with the altitude, and they recommend it.

My DD is graduating from LSU and has accepted a job in Denver, I would really appreciate any information y'all could share!

:flower3: Thank you to babytrees for directing me to your thread... I hope you don't mind me jumping in for a bit and asking a few questions!

Her job is in the Denver Tech Center, I think it would be a good idea if she lived close to her work (she has never driven in snow... but she has seen a little of it a few times! :upsidedow), so I thought the closer the better as far as having to drive to work. Is that an OK part of town for a young woman to live alone in and commute from?

We are looking at apartments on-line now and are making plans to visit Denver next week to have a look around. Any help in directing places to try and also places to avoid would be great!

Welcome! That area is extremely safe. You might find apts close to it expensive. I don't have any apt names to help you. I highly recommend any apts with a Highlands Ranch address. Close to it and a nice area. I certainly understand about the snow driving. She will get use to it but will be nervous the first few times. Sorry I am not much help. I wanted to welcome you though. I am sure that there will be others that can help you more.

Hey Heidi, does Palomino still rent or did they end up selling individual units? That would be close to her and nice as well.

Thank you so much jiminyC fan!! We have just started our search and found the Greenwood Village area first, so we were looking around there... I will find the Highland Ranch area now! Thank you!!!

I have no idea what "expensive" is in Denver, so I guess we need to build some sort of spread sheet so we can compare... :teacher:

So glad you found your way over here!!

Highlands Ranch, Littleton, Greenwood Village and Lone Tree are all close to, or in, DTC, depending on the zip codes.

Congratulations to your daughter. I work in the Denver Tech Center and live in Highlands Ranch and it is a really easy commute. jiminyC_fan recommended Palomino Park which is right down the street from me. I have friends that live in that complex and love it! It is gated and extremely safe - lots of young people and fun. Here is the link to their website: http://www.palominoparkapartments.com/. They are usually running some kind of special, I will try to notice what the sign says when I drive by tonight.

Well you better be sitting down when you get the quotes on the rent. We have friends in TX that has a house about the size of ours and paid A LOT less than we did. I mean like a hundred thousand less. That's huge! I would assume that the rental area will be like that, too.

I'm jiminyC_fan's DD and Palomino Park is a great place. It is a gated community and the club house is very nice. My best friend lived there for awhile and we had a blast there. Your DD may want to look for apartments off of Arapahoe Road, they have a few different complexes there and that is literally in the heart of the DTC.

Thank you all very much for your input! We have been on the computer all day looking at places, I think our eyes were about to give out! Then I came here to check for responses and saw the great information on the Palomino Park location. She REALLY liked that one!! So... A special thanks for that! I think we will call soon to start setting up appointments.

Other places she thought looked good on the computer were....
Promenade Place on Ulster Street, Greenwood Village (Ulster Street is the street her office will be on... if that helps... )
Pinnacle at Denver Tech Center on Valentia Way, Greenwood Village
Enclave @ Belleview Station on Monaco Street, Denver
and Timber Creek (ooops, we didn't write down where that one was! :headache: )

Any and all other advice would be greatly appreciated!! :flower3:

What else should we know about living in Denver? I was thinking that she probably needs a "cold weather survival kit" for her car, do y'all do that? And, if so, what do you put in it? I was thinking of water, batteries, flashlight, radio, blanket, etc.. Is that really necessary, or am I overreacting? :upsidedow

Nope you aren't overreacting. A winter kit is a good idea. Include food, too. You know a power bar or something like that. Keep us posted how everything goes!

(Ulster Street is the street her office will be on... if that helps... )

My office is on the corner of Union and Ulster. This is a good area, and easy to get to.

Also, When I drove by Palomino Park tonight there is a sign out front for $799/month.
