Colorado DISers ... where are you ?

we did that with cheddar cheese!! It was what was in the house at the end of a month (we also added mayo). It's yummy!!:goodvibes
That is so funny. Everytime I make it at work people think I am off my rocker!! It sounds gross, but it really is good. The first time my fiance saw me make it I think he thought I was crazy and he scrunched up his nose. I made him try it and now he always steals it off my plate! Never even thought about adding mayo!

I have never had such good BBQ as a little shack outside of Kilgore TX. I had it only once and absolutely no restaurant has compared. My mouth just waters thinking of it.

Christopher, I agree with you on the Epcot Mexican food. A lot of people like it. We tried it once and that will be the final time.

Armadillos.......my DH has to have green chili that is fiery hot. What you think is hot wouldn't make him happy. Armadillo's has extra hot green chili that he loves. Only one other restaurant makes it hotter and that is Santiagos. I feel that places like On the Border and 3 Margaritas is buffet like food, mass produced.

Cici's, love the mac and cheese, BBQ chicken (here we go again), and spinach and chicken.

Why is it that we end up talking food all the time? LOL

my girls did the same thing (scrunching their nose) but it is a quick treat now for everybody (except DH...he doesn't like it...but he will put jelly on his grilled cheese:scared: ).

Because we all gotta eat!!:thumbsup2

I see cleaning out the garage in my future this weekend.

What does everybody else have on tap for the weekend??

Hey now, so do I!! A close friend taught us to eat it that way.

Not much going on this weekend. Hoping to get outside tomorrow and enjoy the nice weather.

Soccer practice tonight, baseball and soccer games tomorrow.

The "big" item for the weekend is a visit to Colorado Mills for the Lego Brickmaster building of a new Yoda. The kids get to actually help build it.

Other than that, I've got to start the 'honeydew' list: spray for spiders, hang a ceiling fan, and begin putting knobs on our drawers....fun stuff!!!!

Oh my gosh, that is our favorite way to eat grilled cheese. I use to think it was gross until I tried it with homemade peach jelly and now that is the ONLY way to eat a grilled cheese!!!!!!!

Another person here that will be cleaning out the garage. We just put in new carpet and the garage and shed is still holding most of the household goodies. If no one has any plans.....come on over and help.:rotfl2:

Probably Sam's Club tonight, guitar lessons tomorrow, FIL's birthday dinner tomorrow night. Don't know about Sunday. Monday I have a field trip to Rye, so I assume I'll have a lot of catching up to do here on Tuesday AM.

I don't give directions--it's best for everyone involved if I just point to Google Maps... :rotfl:

DH is getting into a paintball fight with his best friend tomorrow (or at least, that's how it seems to me), but his class at work tomorrow was cancelled due to threats from an irate fired worker. There were even cops at the building today. Beyond that, Fiona and I are going SHOPPIN'! I need shoes, she needs socks, and I'm sure we need something sparkly, right? :rotfl: (and yes, that last bit was merely to strike fear into DH's heart!!!)

Funny thing is I think I've been to the Destin, FL location....of course it would have been 20 years ago:scared1: and my first sweet tea...now I know who to blame:rotfl2:

Geeezzz - you guys need to stop typing and get yourselves something to eat!:rotfl:

OK - so for the record, we go to Brother's BBQ wayyy too much.
They have a great sweet BBQ sauce I love to dip their fries in!

Weird food that tastes good? My mom used to make me grilled PB&J's because I don't like cheese. It's good! But my best embarassing food vice is french fries dipped in mayo and ketchup. Some co-worker at Farrell's Ice Cream Parlor at Cinderella City got me hooked on that.

Sparklys.....everyone needs sparklys. Fizzgig, can I go with you?

I stopped by Wal-Mart tonight to get Fiona the "right" shade of pink sparkly fingernail polish to go with the princess dresses for the cruise coming up. I was holding it in my left hand while we walked around the store (no cart, so I don't pick up a bunch of things, right?)... and I hear a "pop" and the polish covers my hand!!! The glass bottle exploded from the warmth of my palm!!! So now I have sparkly hands that have just now stopped being sticky... Got it on my wedding rings and everything... :headache: The nail polish remover got the pink off, but not the sparkles.

Karma is such an annoyance, I tell ya... :rotfl2:

Wow, I feel unworthy to post. I checked in on page 7 and the next thing I notice, it's up to 50!

On the subject of BBQ, we've been hoping to find a decent pit place around here and plan to give Jim and Nick's a try now, so thanks Fizzgig for the suggestion.

I looked them up online and the original shack and ancestry looks promising (Alabama) plus the 14 hour pit smoking. It's all about the meat for us instead of sauce. (Brothers had been talked up by several folks we'd met but they seem to depend on their sauce more than the smoky meat flavor we're craving.)

The best BBQ I've ever eaten was in three places, all small towns in Texas, all on the "wrong" side of the tracks, in buildings I can't imagine the fire marshal would ever deem safe. The pit-smokers sat outside on the grass, roughly in the center of the "parking" which was wherever you could squeeze in on the grass.

The kitchens were filled with beautifully large black women who called you "honey" and hollered at each other with amazing warmth as they bustled around the kitchen (which typically looked like your own kitchen at home only busier).

All three places seem to be continually packed, never any tables, although I should mention these places have no more than about 10 tables inside anyway. C'mon. These are shacks, after all.

(There's usually some picnic tables scattered about the front of the places for people who just insist on staying put with their food.)

Also must-be-on-the-menu items: collards, buttermilk pies (whole), cobblers, and sweet tea that must have been made with 2 oz. of tea and a whole bag of sugar.

Wright's BBQ in Mexia
Mt. Zion BBQ in Huntsville
Ruthie's BBQ in Navasota

If you are ever traveling through the East Texas area between Dallas and Houston, give 'em a try. Most go back 50 years, same family, recipes handed down. Mouth is just watering thinking about them.

Question for Denverites:

Does anybody know how far the hike from the light rail to the Denver Art Museum is?

When I plug in the RTD route, it has a bus transfer included, but I'm curious if it's walkable once we get off the rail.

Unless someone in your group has health issues that make walking difficult, light rail stop to Denver Art Museum is walkable. It's not right next door or anything. I'm guessing it'd be a 10-20 minute walk, about 8-10 blocks, but blocks in Denver are short.

oops, but it also depends on which light rail stop you get off at. I was thinking of the D line, that has stops on 16th and California/Stout Streets. If you're on the C or E line, you'd get off at Union Station, in which case you'd be better off hopping on the free mall shuttle as far east as it goes, then walk from there (maybe 3-5 blocks).
