Colorado DISers ... where are you ?

I think there is a Famous Daves out in Aurora somewhere.

We love Famous Dave's too. Must be a Colorado thing. Next time I am in Kansas I know I am going for BBQ must be awesome there!

Can't wait until it warms up this weekend. I am anxious to get back out in the yard and get my garden ready for flowers. Going shopping with my Mom on Mothers Day for flowers so I need to get them ready.

The sweet tea thing made me laugh. When we travel south you don't go into a restaurant without them having that as a staple but here not to many places have it. If you ask for it they hand you a bag of sugar and tell you to have at it.

OMG Barb, I think we are following each other around this morning. Icky....tea in general. Sorry, I don't do the tea, beer or coffee thing. Now Jrsy is going to want to settle this in a steel cage!:rotfl2:

We used to love Charlie's Pit BBQ here in the Springs on Nevada Avenue, but haven't been in a few years, so don't know if it is still as good as it used to be!

Ooh...sounds like we might need to settle this in the steel cage.

How embarrassing. Guess I better slow down when I read. Sorry Christopher. I didn't mean to step on your toes. We like Famous Dave's but everyones tastes are different!

:lmao:

I like Famous Dave's too, but I am guessing Christopher has had some great BBQ. Maybe he can cook for us to show us that Famous Daves isn't even close to great BBQ that he knows! :cool1: :goodvibes :thumbsup2

My first day and I start a BBQ controversy. Sorry about that....although I'm used to a good BBQ argument. There are so many good BBQ restaurants in KC...(Gates, Bryants, Jack Stack, Smokehouse, Rosedale, Oklahoma Joes, Little Jakes, Zarda, LC's, Danny Edwards, etc.). Notice I didn't mention KC Masterpiece. Although they still have a restaurant in KC, their main one on the plaza failed as it's too much like Famous Dave's (i.e. a little too generic).

Everyone from KC seems to have a different favorite as they're all unique. One can really debate the merits of each restaurant's sauce and meat almost like we're a bunch of "wine snobs". For example, Rosedale serves a sweet brown sugar tomato based sauce with a fairly intense afterkick, but it's meat is generally too fatty. My three favorites BBQ places are Gates (Hi may I help ya!), Smokehouse and Jack Stack.

Don't really care for Bryants, but they have a lot of devout followers. The author, Calvin Trillin, once wrote that Bryants was the best restaurant in the world. If you like small dirty dives, greasy fries, wonder bread, smoked meat and vinegary sauce, you'd like it. I guess I'll be flamed if there are any Bryant's fans out there.

OK, now I'm hungry...why did I write this before eating lunch?

Wow Christopher, you had plenty of choices of BBQ places to go to. Here not so much!! Now I am craving BBQ.

me too!! I really wish we had gone to Bono's on Sunday for our anniversary instead of LoDo's.

Finally, caught up with most of the thread....l

You will definitely LOVE White Fence Farm. Something you have to do at least once. I feel the same way about Casa Bonita but believe me White Fence Farm food is 150% better.

Is it just me, or does the Mexican Pavilian at Epcot remind you of Casa Bonita? :confused3 That said, I wonder how Casa Bonita stays in business. I guess it's the kids dragging their parents there. We used to visit when we were the "out-of-town" guests. Now that we live here, we can officially avoid the place. :cool1:

From a former Colorado Diser (as you can see from my name) to a recently moved to Florida Diser. I miss my beloved Colorado, but I sure like having Disney in my back yard

Celebration...now that would be a fun place to live....

I think we should all do a DIScrop!! :)

My DW would love to join in on this. She's scrapbooking with some friends this weekend.

There is a similar saying about New Jersey: if you don't like the weather, wait five minutes and you'll think of something else you don't like.

:rotfl: :rotfl: :lmao:

We haven't been to Casa Bonita for three years either, but we also take out of town guests there who have kids. The girls always beg to go there, but we change their minds with CiCi's or Armadillos.

What is CiCi's? Tried Armadillos and wasn't impressed...may have to give it another try.

Welcome!!!

So which Saturday/Sunday would be better for everybody for White Fence Farm??
I am leaning toward the first weekend...if we can get more than 3 families to say yea or nay to a day I'll make the reservations!!

Depending on timing, it's something we'd consider the first weekend of May.

Welcome Christopher. We went on the PC cruise last time. You are definitely in for a great cruise! I booked it for this year and decided against it. I didn't think my DD, PoohFriend, would like us on her honeymoon. LOL

Thanks!! We are really looking forward to the cruise. Perhaps we can see some real cliff divers in Alcapulco vs the one at Casa Bonita!!

Sandy, you know I'd be perfectly happy to wrestle with you, but it doesn't have to be in a steel cage. ;)

CiCi's is a Pizza Buffet place. They have them spread out all over the place. Armadillos is only good if you go to the one in Littleton. All the other Armadillos restaurants are disgusting. The Malibu Margarita is the best!

Yes, wish you could try a "Beef on Bun with Fries" at Gates, a "Burnt-end special" at Jack Stack's or the "Gladstoner and baked beans" at Smokehouse.

My last week on the job in KC before moving to Denver, my co-workers took me out to a different BBQ place each day including one I had never visited. On Friday, we catered in Gates! It's now been a year since I've had it.....I may have to break down this weekend and go to Famous Dave's afterall.

They have a Famous Dave's in KC that I tried once (in KC you've gotta try a new BBQ place at least once.) It's out by the Speedway which is close to the T-Rex Restaurant -- yes, it's the same T-Rex that they're opening at Downtown Disney later this year! My recommendation is that if you like Rainforest Cafe, you should enjoy T-Rex. If not, skip T-Rex as it's just a much noisier Rainforest Cafe.

OK, they had one close to our house in KC....my oldest DS loved their Mac&Cheese pizza. I haven't seen one out here yet.

That explains why we didn't like Armadillos -- we tried the one at 104th and I-25 on Christmas eve. It was my BIL's birthday and he wanted to go to Cinzetti's. It was closed, so we ended up going to Armadillos instead. I was trying to be nice in an earlier post, but I agree, it was disgusting.

Jim 'n Nick's has sweet tea and bar-b-que... and cheese biscuits... and wonderful (but expensive) pie. They'll even fry you some dill pickles if you ask! :thumbsup2

He has good taste! :thumbsup2 That is my favorite pizza there. There is a Cici's pizza near Westminster Mall, (in the same strip mall as McDonalds, basically right across from there parking lot). That may be the closest one to you, not sure as I am not up North all that much. My fiance's daughters live in Johnstown so last summer we would stop by that Cici's on the way to dropping them off.

I won't even try that or else I will get hooked! I love to make "appetizers". On a saltine cracker I put a slice of american cheese and dill pickles. SOunds nasty, but it really is good! I have been doing that since I was a kid.
