Colorado Cruisers

Hey all,
Did not know there was a Colorado thread. We live in Denver-Aurora, actually a little patch of unincorporated Arapahoe County near Parker Rd and Iliff and the Highline Canal. We cruise October 21st Western, Cherry Creek Schools Fall break- at least for MS and HS. Two sons, 9 (elem, tracks) and 12 (MS, traditional year).

We have cruised DCL three times before, two Easterns and one Western. Trips to WDW and DL, about 1 a year.

Are you all monitoring Southwest Airline's Dings? We are curious to see what they do to Orlando air prices. I'm hoping they drive Frontier and United direct to Orlando prices down. Still need to buy tickets for October.

Carla

Welcome! Still waiting for someone else from "up north". So far it's just me, lol!

It would be nice to have more competition for the Orlando airfares, but until they add a nonstop flight, I'm sticking to Frontier. I'm just not willing to do a connection, since something as simple as a thunderstorm could cause us to miss the connecting flight. This happened to my sister when a nasty thunderstorm parked over the Orlando airport. They spent a night in Dallas with no extra clothes, no transportation, no food other than vending machines, and no toothbrush. No thanks. I've already racked up enough miles on Frontier for a free ticket for the entire family...scary!

Hey Val, never spent the night, but we have done some long time in airports for Delta connections to and from Orlando. My DH just recently punted on the Disney Visa to try and crank the Frontier card up. I understand about connecting flights! But I am so tired of being hostage to United, and the Frontier selection is limited. Hoping SW will file for Denver-Orlando direct.

Carla

Very, very true. I am never happy about arriving at five in the afternoon, but no one seems to get there before noon. At least they do have a 6pm return flight. United never seems to be able to match Frontier in price except on connecting flights, and I'd rather have a nonstop for a few dollars more. Here's to the potential competition! :thumbsup2

Hi Carla, we cruised the same time with you in Oct 2004 but never got to meet. You live very close to my favorite bar that we use to go to a lot!!!! Everytime I heare the cross streets of Iliff and Parker my mind always jumps to Caldonias!!! Many many fun times there!!

Pooh, now I remember. Weren't you in a big group? I think you were in the private room at Palo during Brunch. Are the ladies in your family long, blond haired? I do think I saw you.

Caledonia's is a bit of neighborhood irritation! :lmao: During the summer we can hear the live band and the volley ball going on until late at night. But it is wonderful compared to all the Harley folks who prove how big their ummm... "engines" are when they blast out of the Piper Inn across the street at 2 A.M. We live right over by the Islamic Center. So summers are loud, between the hogs, the bands and the Imams and all the taxies cutting through.

Val, we have similar problems with the tickets. We are cruising on October 21st and would like to leave after school the Friday before the cruise. But with the long lines at DIA it is a toss-up to hope the middle schooler will not have a test on the Friday when we want to leave. Would love to leave early enough to arrive in time to catch MNSSHP if there is one that night!

Hi Carla, welcome to the Co thread. I cruised with you in Oct 2004 as well. Pooh and I were in a big group and in fact did have a Palo brunch in the private room. But there were two large groups on that cruise. Our group was "headed" by someone in the Walt Suite and then the other group had the Roy suite. Both were DISers.

We prefer Frontier like Val. We had a close call in Dallas as well. We flew home with Val this last time. I remember waiting and waiting for Frontier to open their counter (as always) but at least we had several people to talk to this time.

Yes, we were a little stressed on that trip back, since a porter at Avis had loaded DH's carryon into someone else's car! The one with the car key, house key, passports and all the electronics and cameras. We did get it returned a week later due to some very honest folks on the same cruise. :worship: I took advantage of Frontier's scales to make sure the luggage wasn't overweight (good thing, the large suitcases were)

Carla, Frontier flies out of Concourse A so you don't have to wait in the main security lines, plus you don't have to depend on the trains to get there.

What a relief that you guys are talking about airlines! We're trying to get our acts together for our September cruise, and I have *never* bought airline tickets before. I was also starting to be afraid that I had missed the window to buy tickets. I don't know what I'm going to do if I have to pay the $330 a piece that I'm seeing right now!

I feel your pain on airline tickets, I have been waiting for the plane tickets to drop but so far nothing. When I checked it the earliest possible it was $251 and now it is $321...yikes.

We are looking at airline tickets now too for our October cruise! If anyone gets a Southwest ding...could you post here to share? I signed up for Ding...but have never gotten one ever. I am thinking I may not have done it correctly! :confused3

Supposedly, Frontier was going to slash tickets to keep up with SW but we sure haven't seen anything. It is almost like they went up to make up for the people they lost on SW.

I tried to load DING here at work but to finish installing, it needed to be done by a systems administrator so I can't get it but would be interested in the prices too. I think it would be a great idea to start posting what airfare prices we are finding.

Are you all signed up to receive their specials? Frontier and United send me emails when they have fare sales. We just got airfare to Santa Ana roundtrip for $174, which is awesome. We're going to Disneyland!! That said, I haven't seen any specials to Orlando recently; it must be a lucrative route.

Also, you can sign up for fare tracker on Expedia and enter three destinations and they send you emails with links to the lowest fares they have for those destinations.

:wave2: Hello fellow Colorado Cruisers. Anyone out ther joining us on the June 18th. 4 night Wonder? This will be our first ever cruise and we thought Disney would be a great one to start with. :cool1:

I am not cruising until September but I agree that Disney is the best way to start out. That's how I started out and now instead of venturing out to different cruise lines, I only go on Disney!!!

Thanks Pooh Friend,
I have the same feeling about Disney being our first cruise. I just know we'll really love  it and not cruise with anyone else. pirate:

I was thinking the samething Val. Now you aren't alone! :cool1:

 Hello ColoDisers. We started on Disney as well. Sometimes I think that is bad because we expect nothing but the best and won't try any other cruiseline.
