so im going to be in cs next year so i've been thinking about trying to figure what colleges i want to apply to next year now so i won't have to worry about it too much next year. does anyone on here go to a school with any form of entertainment management? or performing arts management? or anything like that? and is any from or heard of point park university in pittsburgh pa?

Actually, I major in Leisure and Sports Management at Elon University for theatre management. Now, my major is a little sports-centered, but it still gets the gist across (and I love Elon). Besides my little plug for Elon, I know Drexel and Ithaca have theatre/entertainment management programs

thanks for your answer. yeah drexel was my dream but they gave me almost no financial aid.... sooo I don't think its possible but I'll check out your school too. thanks.

anyone else have answers?

Sports/Entertainment Management is more of a Graduate Focus, It would be better to first get a general undergrad in management or marketing, then pursue sports management in a graduate setting.

Keep in mind that most in those fields have a master's degree, sometimes an MBA.

I know that James Madison University, Marshall, and West Virginia all have good programs on the graduate level for sports/entertainment management.

I graduated from Virginia Tech with my undergrad in Business Management and will have my M.S. in Hospitality and Tourism Management from VT before I start my CP.

Also, I used to be on the football team, athletic participation is always a plus to have on a resume when applying for a position in that field. You may want to look at bigger state schools and talk to the people in the Athletics Department about getting hired as an intern working as a manager or in the equipment room with one of the sports teams. A lot of close friends that were managers or worked in the equipment room while I played are now working with the NFL, other professional sports, and other major universities because of the connections that they made while they worked during undergrad.

yeah i want to go for the entertainment management, and plan on going for my mba with a concentrations int entertaiment. but i;d like to get my undergrad in that too. just to give my self every opportunity. there are programs i was just wondering if there were any i haven't found yet. Thanks for the info though :)

any time, i can tell you one thing though, if you are looking strictly for a sports management 4-year undergraduate program, you first two years will be standard math/accounting/marketing/finance/etc. courses. In a typical 120 hour bachelors degree, you would be lucky to have at least 18 hours geared specifically toward your desired program because it is uncommon. I remember that for mine, i had six courses that were actually about management and were applicable in the field, the rest were prerequisites, cakewalk electives, and weed-out classes designed to teach nothing and "thin out the herd"

however, that is coming from a large 25k+ person state school, a smaller school might have a great program specifically geared for what you want, as for that, i lack the knowledge base

I see that you're from RI. I am too. I'm acutally transfering from URI to Johnson and Wales next semester. I'm going to be a Travel/Toursim & Hospitality Management major but Johnson and Wales also has the Sports/Entertainment/Events Management. I looked into it and it seem really interesting. You should definately check out their program.

I guess since I am graduating from a small school, I'm one of the exceptions.

My degree is in Hospitality Management, yet most of my focus was in Sports Management. I only needed 15 credits of core curriculum (math, science, english, etc.) and the rest were hospitality or sports management classes--most being the latter. I love it and wouldn't change my concentration for the world, even though I don't want to work in sports anymore! Sports Management gives you a great parallel to other forms of entertainment. I know that isn't what you want to do, but if the program is sports/entertainment, I would still look into it!

It really depends on the school. I'm Hospitality Management yet at my school (Florida Atlantic University) its a business degree, so I've needed the accounting, finance, stats, calculus etc. for it

My school does have a sports management MBA which I'm really interested in after I finish my BBA

I'm from Warwick. It's not too bad going to school close to home though. Especially living at school I have space but when I want to go home I can. But with that being said I'm glad I'm going to Florida for 5 months in the college program. I need to be more independent.

what's your arrival dates?

My check in date is August 9th.

Oh and what's even weirder than both of us living in RI, is that we share the same last name.. I'm a Brennan too.
