A student at the college I teach at was murdered last week at her apartment .... just a few blocks from the house I'm moving out of. She was a former Miss Arkansas contestant and well liked by everyone who knew her. Details of her case are coming up on CNN's Anderson Cooper 360 at 10 pm eastern tonight.

How awful. Does it appear to be a random murder or do they think that the perpetrator knew her? We had a jogger murdered at 4 pm, in a very small rural town in Ct. The suspect (Deojay) was the caretaker on the property of the actor who plays Big Bird! Big Bird wasn't home at the time. His lawyer is saying that he accidentally struck her with his car, panicked and attempted to hide the body. It doesn't seem that way from the evidence however. She lived in Ct. but appears to have died in Mass. so I believe Mass. will be prosecuting. Ct. has a death penalty. Mass. does not.

That is terrible and I think if it were me.....I'd be thankful I was moving.

Really makes you wonder tho, why people find it necessary to do such a violent thing.

We're really frustrated as we keep hearing conflicting stories from our local news stations. It doesn't appear to be a random case, however. Here's the latest from KARK-TV in Little Rock:

"Russellville police say they now have a suspect in the death of 19-year Arkansas Tech student and beauty queen.
Nona Dirksmeyer was found dead at her apartment last Thursday night.
According to preliminary autopsy results, she was found nude with trauma wounds all over her body, including a major stab wound in the neck.
At a press conference today, police say they do have a suspect, but they will not release that person`s identity until the investigation is complete.
Police said they did interview Dirksmeyer`s boyfriend Kevin Jones yesterday.
They would not confirm or deny whether or not Jones is the suspect.
Jones discovered Dirksmeyer`s body last thursday, along with his mother.
The suspect has already taken a polygraph test, but no word yet on the results."

None of her friends or family suspect the boyfriend. They believe the suspect is some guy that had been stalking her. But from what I've been told by someone close to the case, they can't find this stalker. So, we're wondering who the suspect is. I was hoping CNN could shed some more light on this last night but so far, no deal.

I have been following this story as I too live in Arkansas. Russellville definitely is a safe city, and it is hard to believe such a horrible crime occurred there. It does seem that the boyfriend has not been a prime suspect thus far in the case.

Also on a side note, what a small world, escape, I used to live in Russellville and graduated from high school there. I think I even lived not more than a mile or two from where you live now. I will actually be going there for Christmas. There are definitely DIS boards members everywhere. Merry Christmas.
