Did you ever go somewhere during your college spring breaks?

I went twice, freshman and senior years. In 1980 I was in Hollywood, FL for my 19th birthday. We wanted to stay in Ft.Lauderdale (Where The Boys Are) but had trouble finding a vacancy, so one of the gals’ mother or aunt found us a place in nearby Hollywood. Before arriving there we went to the Magic Kingdom for a day.

Senior year 1983 we repeated the Disney for a day first. Epcot had recently opened so we went there. Then we spent the rest of the week in Daytona Beach.

We drove straight thru both times, both going and returning.

It was a blast both times. Lots of fun. Lots of alcohol. Some unseemly activity.

I’m just glad that Girls Gone Wild videos weren’t a thing back then. 😉

Went to Jamaica my Sophomore year. Stayed in a Villa with 4 other girls with our own pool, gardener, and housekeeper, We had our own driver who drove us to many cool places. It was a memorable trip!! :)

We drove to Missouri. The first part of the week we camped somewhere on Lake of the Ozarks--it was in March & freezing. Then we stayed in St. Louis for a few days--I was never so happy for unlimited hot water and a bed.

Why Missouri, you ask. It was one of those late night great ideas that only happen in college when all of your friends realize no one has been west of the Mississippi River and everyone was too young to gamble in Vegas.

My son and his friends drove to Canada from NJ, it was legal for them to drink there. My friends and I went to Cancun junior year in college. Dd19 and her friends drive to Panama City from Clemson, but they stayed at a Airbnb a few blocks from the beach with a pool, so basically just hung out together (5 guys, 4 girls).

I grew up very close to South Padre Island. Somehow my group of girlfriends and I convinced our parents to get a us a condo for Spring Break Week for our Junior and Senior years....... of high school! It was the 80's and spring break was more of less harmless fun.

No. I went to College 1975-1979 and I don't remember anyone taking a Spring Break Trip. If they lived close enough some went home. I did, to catch up on my sleep, but I only lived 50 miles away. My University had a pretty big International student population so dorms were open for Spring Break, and Christmas Break and they kept one dining hall open. Those folks didn't go home until the end of the school year.

Just once. 6 of us drove almost non-stop to Daytona, FL.

Departure day we had exams, I know I had one from 1-4 pm. It started snowing around mid-day, and by evening it was piling up. But of course we went anyway.

Eventually we got beyond the snow, but further down I-95 we had car problems. We were in Georgia I believe, and at least we were back in daylight by then. But this was soon after a 60 Minutes story about rip-off garages preying on tourists along that area of road. So we had visions of being left penniless. Cash was still king back then. But we were able to get the repair done, pooling our money to cover the cost, and on we went, finally arriving in Daytona Beach.

We also went to WDW for one day, only the Magic Kingdom existed back then. On the way back the person driving took the exit for Deltona instead of Daytona, so we had some late night directional issues, as this was also in the era of paper maps.

On the way home one of the six needed to stop for cigarettes for family members, so we each had a case of them on our laps for about half of the return trip. And of course we had to stop at the infamous South of the Border too, where early on a Sunday morning we found ourselves eating chili.

But overall we had a good time and returned home safely without further incident.

My college didn’t have a break in the spring semester. But we got done earlier, so at the time we thought that was a good trade-off. Lol

We had a spring break, but it was always Easter week, so beaches, though close enough to drive to, were prohibitively expensive for my friend group. There were people who did go, but I didn't run with that crowd. I was also a history major, so I always had a barge-load of papers due the following week, the upshot being that I used the break as a marathon writing opportunity every spring, just as I used Thanksgiving break in the Fall semesters.

Also, as we lived in the Deep South and had been to local beaches from childhood with our families, we tended to prefer not to mix much with the tourist crowd from the Northeast in any case, and we didn't have the motivation of escaping from cold weather. We used to do more in the way of spontaneous weekend beach jaunts at other seasons of the year, when it was cheaper and we were more likely to encounter other students from nearby schools.

I went to the Bahamas with 3 girlfriends and 3 guy friends sophomore year of college. One of the girls was dating one of the guys and thought for sure she would stay in their room. After one night she asked if one of us would swap so I ended up bunking with the guys. LOL. Nothing untoward happened and one of the guys slept in the bath tub but this thread brought back a lot of funny memories. We all had a blast. It was a great thing to do at the time and I'm glad I took the trip.

My university supposedly had students from all 50 states and at least two dozen countries. I know certain parts of certain dorms stayed open during Thanksgiving and Spring breaks for those who couldn’t go home. During the 3 weeks or so of Christmas break, they could check into one floor of a dorm that operated year round as a hotel for parents, alums, and other visitors.
