I am putting some college information together for a local middle school parents group, and came across this website. It's basically an online college open house. Dozens and dozens of big name colleges are affiliated. It looks like a great way to weed out some of those choices on the students long list, before your actual campus visits. And it's free.

Interesting. I will email to my freshman dd.

As a side note, was in the library the other day and the resources available are awesome. Don't forget that!:thumbsup2

It is a great website. I work for the largest public university in my state and we use it.

There's also CollegeConfidential.Com, but the sheer size of the place (and of some of the egos posting there) can be intimidating to folks.

I would also recommend CollegeProwler.Com for college students' unvarnished opinions of schools.

Hey, is it too late for my DD(college freshman) to sign up? CollegeWeekLive sounds really interesting and it would also be nice to get some more help paying :faint: for all this educatin' :teacher: .

agnes!

Please Lord, let this one stay civil....

Well, in all fairness, some people won't need a site like this. Their kids probably rode their tricycles on a regional college tour at the end on their preschool year (although that is a little late getting started.)

:lmao::rotfl2::lmao::thumbsup2

Thanks for the site...and the others posted in the thread. They look like great resources.

Though my DS is already a HS freshman, so we're starting behind the game...or at least, that's what I've heard. :goodvibes

Perfect timing! We're just starting this process. DD is a junior. So we're apparently behind too. :( lol

I read College Confidential but I never registered since my DS did not get a 2400.

Really there are PLENTY of families there that are dealing with less than perfect score, gpa students. I am one of them ;). If you go to the Parents Forum or Parent Cafe, you will find many experienced people who went through the college search, application and admission process for 3.0-3.3 or 3.3-3.6 students. They have so much to share regarding colleges, scholarships, etc. for those students. Don't be afraid to jump in with that group. They are very supportive and helpful.

I actually used them a few weeks ago. I got to chat with a few people at two colleges we are interested in. Dd wasn't home, so I got to do it. My issue was that on a few occasions, I clicked on some colleges accidently that we weren't interested in. Now, I can't get them to stop calling us.
Also...I watched/listened to a few webinars...looked interesting. One was on financial aid and was of no help what so ever. The other one I wanted to see was a dad who has written a book about getting your child into the college they want without a ton of stress. When the webinar started, he sat there and talked about his book for 10 mins, then asked if there were any questions. In the time it took me to type out my question, he said, 'Ok, no questions out there, bye'.

But being able to chat, in real time with someone from the college was great. I got some good answers from them before we head out to visit them.

I liked it in some respects and in others I didn't.

True, the pre ACT training begins in the nursery... why didn't you KNOW that??? ;)
