Does anyone have any college loft bed plans they would be willing to share? My father said he would be willing to make my DD and her roomate lofts if they could find plans. I found some of $30 but was wondering if anyone has a set they would be willing to share? Thanks in advance!

Are they living in the dorm? If so, the beds might already be "loftable." Mine did. They adjusted up to waist height so I could store tons of stuff under them. Many colleges don't allow outside loft kits. If they're in an apartment, then, go for it! :)

If your kids are living in college-housing of any kind chances are you will be prohibited from bringing in outside kits since the beds are already "loft-ready". My DS college makes you do it yourself; my DD college hires an outside vendor to do it for you. Bring along tools and ask for some help from the other parents moving in who have done it before. It's not hard and is just another skill us parents acquire during the college years:thumbsup2

Its a considered a fire hazard in some dorms to bring your own lofts. Some beds come lofted with the option to unloft, some beds you have to pay for a lofting device. Depends on the college and the age of the dorm. Bunk beds are different from lofts though and come with their own sets of requirements. Check with your college before hand so you don't waste time and money.

My first year of school, we had our beds lofted. At my college, the beds could be lofted or bunked and we chose to loft so that we could have our own "space" and beds. I loved it!

DD is checking with her RA but since she saw a few lofts last year she is pretty sure they are allowed but has no idea how to make them or where to get them...she will have to inquire!

We did this with my daughter's room when she was younger and got our plans off the internet. I don't remember what they cost, but it seems like it was $10 or so. I'll check my home computer to see if they are still on there.

Thank you. We are in NY my father is in MA but I would love to send him the plans to see how much he thinks the lumber would be and also to see if it is something he thinks he can build for her and her roomie when he visits us in Oct. He is a very handy kind of guy, unlike DH who we do not allow to even use a hammer anymore...a screwdriver is ok but hammer or anything more powerful..NOPE!!!

I know that the schools DS17 is looking at specifically states that lofts be constructed on site. They don't want people to come in with preconstructed lofts that may block sprinkler heads, vents, windows, etc. Check carefully with the school before you do anything. I know at DS's #1 choice they have a program where you can rent a school approved loft for $100/year. They have some beds in rooms that are already lofted so not everyone needs one. If DS goes there and doesn't get a loft, we will probably rent one of these.

In our DD's dorm, the beds come lofted already.

All changes to the furniture configuration have to be done through the housing staff.

They have extensions for the bed legs but she wants a loft..so she can put her desk or futon under it. She is asking if this is allowed. She saw a few last year when she stayed there with a friend...weather they are ALLOWED is another story. Thanks.

I've checked all of my computers and haven't found the plans. They must have been on my desktop that crashed a couple of years ago. Sorry! :guilty:

I was going to agree with your post, and I noticed where you live. :goodvibes Is your daughter at U of I? I stayed in the dorms there my 1st year, and actually worked at the front desk of my building, and our office had to process all the bed changes.

She IS! What dorm were you in?

She is a freshman at Slater. She loves her classes, and likes her roommate. They get along well, maybe not exactly joined-at-the-hip best buddies, but they are friends. She is not too thrilled with the other girls on her floor - they mostly are big party-ers, and Jennifer is NOT into that at all.

She is hoping to move to Daum next year.

I was right across the parking lot from her, in Quad. :thumbsup2 That's good that she gets along with her roommate - I had a single so didn't really have to worry about it. Hope she has a good first year!
