Hello Girl Scout Leaders,
I am trying to find info on cookie profits from other councils.
The info I am looking for is
What council do you belong to ?
What baker does your council use ?
How much does your council sell cookies for ?
And how does your councils cookie crumble ?
I am also trying to gather info from anybody who has ever actually suceeded in getting their council to change their cookie profits ( for the better of the girls)
There are quite a few leaders around here that just do not agree with how our cookie is crumbling.
And please lets all remember the GS Law in this thread, "be friendly and helpful". Please I don't want this turning into a bashing thread about all things terrible.
This is a take at how my troops cookie crumbled last year :
Council : Mountains to Midlands, ( the western side of South Carolina)
Baker : Our council uses ABC
Cost : $3.50 per box
My troop has 5 girls and last year we sold 2100 boxes. The girls earned a profit of .43 per box for a total of $903. We deposited to the councils account
$6447.
Our cookies crumbles like this : cost per box
3% = .10 Bank Charges/Fees
26% = .91 - Cost from ABC Baker
14% = .49 cents - Staff salary, repairs and equiptment purchases
15% = .52 cents - Volunteer Training (required training for leaders, etc)
15% = .52 cents - Program ( ? )
Here the items that we are having problems with
6% = .21 - Camps and maintence of camp Properties
Our council has recently sold several camp properties and has several others up for sale, and in turn has purchased a large urban building, that needs to be totally renovated and entirely gutted and re-fitted, estimated 3 1/2 years time until it's ready.
2 % = .07 - Incentives -
Please please please stop with the dinky crap, even the younger girls in our area don't care for it, the items are so cheap and pathetic. Our girls would much rather recieve that extra 7 cents per box, than a cheapy lil neacklace with a lil tiny wooden owl on it, if they had not withheld the 2% Our troop could have earned an additional $147
2 % = .07 - Cookie Dough -
OOhh, gesh what can you say about this ? IMO it's a crap shoot. You have to sell a mim of 150 boxes to even qualify for Cookie Dough, Then once you earn it you get it in incriments of $2.50 per 25 boxes above 150 that you sell. It's monolopy money that you turn in to council to pay for activites. But thats about the only thing you can use it for, or silver/gold project materials. So we get the lil green bux in 2.50 incriments, but the activites cost say $11, or $13, so you have to over pay, but the thing is you don't get change back ! They take 7 cents a box and funnel it into such an exlusive program, that has so many restrictions and limitations, you earn such a minimal amount to start with, please just leave the girls the .07 cents per box, with the ability to have earned another $147 more than the girls did.
3% = .10 - Girlz Gear Coupon
This is another program like the cookie dough, that you have to qualify to earn back from the money they withheld from you in the first place. They use this as their re-registration incentive. If your troop re-registers in the fall with the mim # of girls, you get a $2 Girlz Gear Q. Now I'm all for Q's and I love them to death, we are all about having the girls hang on to their money for better opportunities, but the $2 is off only a new journey book or the new handbook/badge book. so with my 5 girls, they are getting back $10. they would much rather have just kept their 3% and held on to an additional $210.
12-14% = .43-.48 - Girl Profit
hhmmm, seems like if we didn't have to funnel these addtional 2%, 2% & 3% above the girl profit could be more like 19-21 %.
In our council, troops with the majority Cadettes and older can opt out of prizes and earn a higher percentage. But girls with troop/groups, that have girls older then Cadettes can not take advantage of this if the majority of the troop/group is Juniors and below.
So leaders, tell me, has your council ever successfully gone through a profit change in the positive for the girls ?
