Collecting Fastpasses?

Ok, I'm confused. I've always thought you had to use your fastpass in the hour printed on it- but it seems that you can use it anytime after that hour as well? Is this true and has anyone had any problems with it?

Yes. True.

That is Disney policy.

If the attraction lines get extremely backed up, there is a possibility that you would be turned away at that time.
But, the chances would be very LOW that you would be refused.

We went "late" with fastpasses to the following:

Soarin
Splash Mountain
Thunder Mountain
Space Mountain

No problems with any of them- it was great

If you get a FP at 9AM, the LATEST time you could get another one would be at 11AM.

That's how it works.

You wait until the return time is reached on the FP you have (or 2 hours after getting the one you have, whichever comes first) and then go get another FP... and so forth.

The actual time that you can get another FP is PRINTED right on your current FP.

It is indeed true. Most times you are ok, however some CM's will deny you, especially if the ride is very busy. The FastPass doesn't say they will let you in later, only during the time. But typically you can go later.

The next available time is posted on the FastPass you receive. I believe it is typically 2 hours after you receive your current one. Simply to allow people to get others if they say, get a FP for TSMM at 10am with a 7pm return time (which is completely possible). In that case you most likely get another at noon, and then 2, and then 4, etc. It is either 2 hrs after you get the FP, or the start of the window. (So if you get a FP at 10am for 11am, your next FP would be available at 11)

Actually, Disney policy is that you are required to return within the window. However, CMs are given latitude to allow exceptions to that policy - with the idea that things come up...meltdowns occur, meals take longer than expected, etc. However, it seems that the lack of enforcement altogether has emboldened people to PLAN to use their FPs after the return window. This isn't in the spirit of the system and can really gum up the highly-calculated FP lines later in the day. But, sure, reports are that you can tour that way if you decide to.

You can get new fastpasses 1 hour after you get your last one regardless of it's starting time. If the start time is a ways off, you can end up with passes for several different rides in your pocket.

My apologies but you are correct. Next fastpass available around time the current fastpast can be used or a maximum of 2 hrs. Maybe the time just seems to fly by when I'm there.

We have done this and never had a problem with it. We've never been turned away.

We've grabbed fastpasses on the way out of a park around noon, especially if we know we're coming back later that night. We come back that night, and the fastpasses are gone from the machines...but we have one for another ride!

I wish we had known this before. Dh and I actually tossed out FP's once when we didn't make it back in time!! That was before I started reading here, of course. Knowing this will make our trip with the boys (ages 1 & 3) much easier. I'm sure we'll end up with more than a few surprises that keep us from getting back to a ride right on time.

Actually, Disney policy is that FPs are good til park closes that day. It is not "required" that you return within the window.

I just realized this to be true before our last trip 3 weeks ago. Thanks goodness. We used to be rushing to get back to ride with FP, but since I found out that they will take them later (not earlier) we saved them until it was convienent for us to use them and we never had a problem.

Keep in mind that if you decide you can't use the FP you can give them to someone else. A family gave us FP because they were leaving that park. We were really excited and then did the same thing when we decided to hop one day.
