The orthodentist recommended DD to use Colgate PreviDent 5000 plus, for 1.8 oz, they charge $10. Is it reasonable? Does anyone know where I can buy it?
I just used Colgate kids (the strawberry one... I think that's Colgate?) and Aquafresh in the silver tube, it was some kind of foaming one. my teeth became more sensitive as I grew up and I later switched to Sensodyne. I had zero decay when I got my braces off.
I think $10 is an awful lot for toothpaste and probably unnecessary with good brushing habits, using a mouthwash, and flossing appropriately -- at least it was in my case (and my brother's, and my best friend, who was the one who got me started on that foaming toothpaste).
ive been using it for years!! so worth it to be honest.. it helped with the sensitivity. i no longer wince when i see ice tea. it was so bad for me.. the tools at the dentist office would bring tears to my eyes. i couldnt have them touching some of my teeth.. no problem now
lil bit goes a long way. i buy it twice a year.
i use it in the am. then regular at night, so it lasts longer.
its only avail at the dental offices.. because its prescription.
wonder if you can get it with health insurance at the pharmacy??
eta i just checked for tricare(military health ins) no covered ..lists it as excluded from plan

I've had that before. I get it at the pharmacy counter. You need a scrip from your dentist. It costs around 10 dollars and it says on the tube for nightly use since you can't rinse/eat/drink for so long after use. Your insurance can cover it too. My doesn't but that's how it goes.
It's prescription so it should only be available with a rx at a pharmacy, not over the counter or at your dentist. It does have a generic, but $10 is about right. Your insurance company may or may not cover it though.
Totally worth the extra money. I only use it at night as well. It will last a long time. I had two options the pharmacy or dentist. The pharmacy was cheaper and they gave me a AAA discount. This was at CVS. So if you go there check and see if you can get that too if you have AAA.

I am a dental hygienist and my DD has been in ortho for 1.5 years. I only allow her to use Prevident while in ortho. She has pretty good hygiene habits but the
Prevident is just an extra precaution so that she does not develop demineralization around her brackets or decay in between her teeth.
The pharmacy will charge about $24.99 for the toothpaste and some insurance policies do not cover this or you have a deductible to meet. The orthodontist is probably paying at least $7-8 for the bottle so his/her mark up is maybe $2-$3 per bottle. This is worth saving your gas and time for sure.
I would say they are charging a very fair price and it is worth every penny.
I also order my daughter platypus flossers which make flossing very easy. They have a web site and you can order directly from the company.
I have a regimin of hygiene products for my DD to use but the two listed are what I insist she uses every day.
