I know we've all heard that vitamin C helps colds, but I have put it to the test a few times already this Fall. When I feel a cold coming on I take 2 500mg of vitamin C in the morning and again at night for several days. Is this "all in my head" or does anyone else have great results with this natural remedy? :D

A cold is a virus and nothing really helps get rid of it, it has to run its course. But you can treat the symptoms, when I was in college we learned that Vitamn C had no effect on colds except the liquid that you take it with, since you need to increase fluids.;)

The power of belief is also important. My high school debate coach was a very strong believer of the effectiveness of vitamin C. One tournament where I was a little sick, she followed me around pumping a couple 1000 mgs between rounds. It work, we won the tournament. I still take vitamin c from time to time when I have a cold and really do not care how it works.

I take 1,000.00 MG a DAY! Helps keep the colds away!;)

Another believer here! Vitamin C may not kill the virus, but it certainly helps the body fight the virus & at least "lessen" the symptoms. For me, it has nothing to do with extra fluids. I always take the chewable. I usually suck on them like a lozenge. It sure helps a sore throat! Years ago I tried swallowing tablets - they didn't seem to do much if anything. DH thought it was all in my head - so he took the rest of the tablets. He eventually realized the same thing I did (chewables work, tablets don't) and tossed the remaining tablets.
