Cold sores?

I have gotten cold sores my whole life.
I had a prescription for Zovirax(cream) years ago, but I never bothered to get it refilled because Abreva works the same for me.

4 things:

1.I apply Abreva.

2. As soon as the Abreva cream is dissipated(whiteness goes away) I put on Carmex, liberally and often, I never give my lip a chance to dry out. I probably do Abreva 3-4 times a day and Carmex a million.;)

3.I pop L Lysine, probably 3 or 4 a day when I get one.

4. I MUST start the above at the first tingle. If I do that, I'd say 75% of the time, the cold sore, while it lasts for a few days, never gets big or noticeable, just a slight bump, no sore.

I just wanted to throw out another medicine that works: Famvir. My sister and I both get cold sores and use Famvir to battle them. We both used to get the sores that blow up your entire lip. Since I've started taking Famvir once I feel the tingle, I don't get large cold sores and sometimes the cold sore never comes up.

I think I need to try the l-lysine! I'd gladly take it every day if it meant I never had to deal with another cold sore!

I get them inside my mouth and inside my nose. A dentist years ago told me blue Listerine would help. Go figure, it works. But, not once they erupt. The Listerine keeps the breakout from happening but there is nothing I ever discovered that helps them end faster. If I notice the bump early and can remember to either gargle or apply in my nose with a q-tip I will head it off.

I hope you feel better soon.
