I don't know about you but last week I camped and 1 pool was closed and the other had no heat! What a shocker jumping in cold water. When is River Country going to open so Fort Wilderness can have a cool pool like the rest of the hotels! We snuck over to Fort Wilderness Lodge but I always worry about getting kicked out which has happened to me before. But that pool is so much nicer and there is a bar there for drinks by the pool.

With the campsites costing more and not far from the price of the value resorts with a discount, they really need to think about the pools. Although, when we stayed at the ASM during hurricane Jeanne, I would not trade FW for nothing!

Unfortunately, I read on allearsnet.com that Disney announced on 1/20/2005 that River Country is closed permanantly. We were at Disney last year (June 2004) and saw that River Country was not open then. I think its sad, because as a teenager I used to really enjoyed River Country when it was the only water park at Disney.

We were at FW this past weekend and I went to the Meadow pool early Sat. morning and the water felt warm to me. Maybe they turned the heat on overnight.

I live in Florida and own a pool. I swear they never have the pools heated above 70degrees.
They need several pools at fort wilderness including a 'QUIET POOL'.

We were at Ft. Wilderness just a few weeks ago for MLK weekend. It got into the 40's at night there for two nights. Both nights, while out making our rounds on the golf cart, we saw people swimming in the Meadows pool! The water was quite warm, with steam coming off the surface and the swimmers. A few years ago, on an even colder evening, we were driving by the Meadows pool and saw people swimming and having a great time. We went and grabbed our suits and jumped in. It was great! The water feels so warm when it is cold out. The only problem was when it was time to get out. You basically have to run like the wind into the bathrooms there at the pool. The are heated, but not very warm. It is then a very cold ride (or walk) back to the campsite. The kids still talk about that night, but never have asked to do that again!

Hope this pools are warm for us! Leaving in a few days and would really enjoy a nice swim.

I just got home tonight and the pool did warm up. Plenty of people complained and they turned the heat up.

Also, a cast member told us that if the pool was too cold to go over to WL. He said we did not need a special pass and ID's were not checked until March.

A cast member at the Meadows Pool told us that they try to keep the pool at 82 degrees. That being said; DO NOT LET YOUR LITTLE ONES IN THE WADING POOL! It is freezing and they will probably get hypothermia. The same cast member said that they would have to keep the big pool at 90 for the wading pool to warm up.

the meadows pools have been cold for many years. 82 degrees no way maybe 72 degrees. You can have steam coming off the water if the water is warmer than the air. Last I heard they were having problems with the pump but I doubt that is true. River country is closed for good and their are no plans (that I am aware of) for upgrading the pools. When we complained on our last trip, along with many people, they had some suits come out and said they couldnt do anything about it. CMs never suggested going to wilderness lodge pool, I imagine because they dont allow pool hopping anymore.

Would not make a trip over to WL for a dip in the pool since as mentioned above there is no pool hopping no matter what anyone says. Hopping is reserved for DVC Members only and that is with certain restrictions.

I have stayed at Wilderness lodge and Fort Wilderness. I did not swim at Wilderness lodge as the pool is smaller than Fort Wilderness and very crowded. I wish they would put a nice slide in at Fort Wilderness and a hot tub. I also hope the reason that Wilderness Lodge is so full is not because Fort Wilderness campers are Pool hopping. Tigger

I'm inclined to think that WL pool is crowded because of the relative small size of the pool and the large size of the hotel. I really don't think pool hopping from FW is a big problem. I personally have never seen anyone on the boat from FW to WL that looked like they were pool hopping.

:moped:

Anyone ever use the pool at the villas..over at the WL? It's very nice..and you are less likely to be asked to leave..no slide..but there is a hot tub. Not crowded either.

We just got back yesterday from Fort Wilderness, and went to the pool twice, very cold both times, not fun at all.
