Cold Callers Rant

At home its stopped the majority of them, maybe get 1 every 2 weeks now but at the shop I get them almost every day, TPS doesn't help much at all.
Not that it bothers me that much, I quite enjoy getting the odd one if I am not busy.
I have lots of responses to them. I like when they ask me to confirm who I am for security I say no, they can't go any further and are stumped. They usually wish they had never rung in the end.
At home I once had one ring me back about 5 times, told me I could not hang up on him, he was really funny and wound up.
Sometimes ask for their company name and number and how they got a non listed number 9/10 they hang up straight away.
Can't believe anyone actually buys anything from an unknown person on a phone.

My business line is on the my home line (different ring tone and number) so we can only stop the calls from one line, we chose home so I still get the business ones.

The other thing that winds me up is the people that say 'you only have today to sign up for this great deal' and then they want your bank details, YEAH RIGHT!

I assume most of these people have 'bought' my information from the council so I think i'll try the 'unlisted number' thing and see if that works.

Oh and another thing that bugs me, the people doing surveys that will only take 2 minutes and end up taking 20!

Ok im going to do the unthinkable, stick up for the cold callers! A few years ago when I was out of work I ended up having to work for a well known window company doing cold calls. It was the most soul destroying job ever and I hated having to annoy people but I needed the money. Often if we had not hit our sales target we were told we had to stay on after work unpaid until we did, this may be why some callers can be pushy! Be careful about being rude to cold callers because they can get their own back! If someone used to put the phone on the side and leave it we would simply leave the line connected and continue calling from another line, we used to tie peoples lines up for hours on end because of course even if they hang up the line is still connected! If someone was rude people would pass the number round and start prank calling them, there are lots of things you can do from an unlisted number!

You know how when call centres call it normally "clicks" I normally hang up then or as soon as they say hello

I did have one call though when I was about 17....asked if my mum was in, no....dad, no....so started his spiel about this great credit card to me. Honest to god he went on for about 10 minutes and I kept trying to but in to no avail. Finally he goes "Can I just confirm you're over 18?" I said "well, no" and he was all " well I can't offer you this great deal then!!!" and then hung up on ME

From then on I've learnt my lesson and hang up as soon as possible. Although, as Jen says, I understand people are just doing their job but there's no point me wasting their time and mine when there's no way in hell I'm going to agree to whatever they're selling! I hate the one's that pretend they're your best friend just calling for a chat all "so what did you get up to at the weekend?!".

I just can't understand why anyone would buy from an unknown person who rings, even if they are doing it for £10/year. I don't get how telesales sell anything but they must to be worth ringing.

I think I know you. Don't you have a Disney personalised number plate and I met you once in Keillers china shop looking at the WDCC stuff and then again at the Huntingtower Hotel wedding fair (I was the cake person there and mentioned your fab earrings!)
