I watched Paul McCartney on the Colbert Report the other night and I have a strange question.

Was that a real interview? :confused3 The cut away shots made it seem kind of fake but Paul answered the odd questions asked and replied accordingly. It was so confusing. Real interview or not? :confused3

Apparently you do not watch Stephen Colbert?:lmao:

He is a comedian thru and thru. I can't believe some of the people that interview with him.

I know of a couple radio shows that might confuse the heck out of you then...lol.

Yes, it's real, but Colbert has an excellent way of tricking people into saying some REALLY funny stuff!

eta: I'm not sure Sir Paul knew what he was getting into--a lot of guests are not sure what to make of him

If by a 'real interview' you mean "was that interview an accuraate representation of the interview given without any cuts and edits", then no. Stpehen Colbert does not give 'real interviews'. It was most definitely cut and edited to make poor Sir Paul look foolish. However, if you are asking whether his answers to different questions were substituted as responses to the questions Stephen was shown aksing, then probably not. Usually, the Colbert Report relies on people's actual answers to Stephen's questions being stupid enough on their own to not require additional foolery.

I have to admit, the editing did seem a bit more choppy than it usually does, however, I would chalk this up to Sir Paul being very British and thus rather difficult for American audiences to understand. Additional edits were likely made because it was thought he would be unintelligible to the average American. I have to admit to laughing out loud when he asked if Stephen was "taking the Mickey". I've never actually heard anyone use that phrase, I've only seen it written in British publications.

I think maybe the op is asking if the interview was just clips cut and pasted from another interview, then Stephen Colbert was inserted somehow?:confused3 No, this isn't the case. It was a real interview. The editing was a little weird, maybe. I love Stephen Colbert! What a great show!

No - that was a real interview.

Colbert is known for asking inappropriate questions that are quite amusing.

This interview was publicized before McCartney went on.

Colbert has a segment called "Better Know a District" where he interviews congressional people - and often makes them look quite silly.

He played off on that when he did "Better Know a Beatle."

I loved them singing Ebony and Ivory......

Real or not - it was Hilarious and it does not seem that Paul was being "had" - that he had fun. Good stuff.

I got that idea as well! Some people are "in" on what Colbert does and they play along with a smirk on their face. Not all of them are taken in or being "had".

This one did seem a little more set up to me - the whole " I have never seen you before"....not the whole thing, but part.... I dunno?......just my take.....

:)

I think my favorite "Better Know a District" segment was when he was interviewing some politician and the subject comes to breastfeeding. He actually whipped out a breast pump and put it to his nipple!:rotfl2: It was hillarious!

I agree! Very funny stuff! I loved the part where Colbert told Paul that his (Colbert's) show is indeed shown on television in England, and Paul replied, "Well, it isn't on MY television." :rotfl2:

It was also funny because The Beatles were very good at "taking the mickey" out of interviewers in the 60s. All four Beatles were experts at one-liners and sending up reporters, interviewers, any media people.

Love Sir Paul!!!

DH and I wondered the same thing because of the almost split screen shots. You'd see Paul and then you'd see Steven. Toward the end we concluded that it was real. Paul was great.

My favorite line was about Ringo being the luckiest man on earth:rotfl:

I love Colbert. Paul was great, Remember Steven is a comedian. His show is just that. I like the daily show better, But I do love when Steven interviews people.

If I understand the question, it was : Were those two in the same room together talking to each other? I think they were together, and I would think the editing done was to make the segment time out properly and perhaps picking up some of the best material.

Also, I don't think Paul McCartney goes into any interview without some background on the program or the interviewer. He spends a lot of time in the U.S. so I'm thinking he knows all about the Colbert show. It was pretty funny stuff. I also thought the remark about "first of a four part series" was darkly funny considering that 2 of the Beatles are very *unavailable* for interviews.
