Has anyone noticed a strange almost orangey flavor to the cokes (& even water) from the fountain machines? I'll admit that Dr Pepper is my drink of choice, but I do drink Coke too so I know how it should taste. Everyone in our travel party noticed this flavor. I guess it's good because it kept me from drinking as many cokes as I would have normally! ;)

No. I was just on the Wonder and I thought it tasted fine.

Sounds like the machine is crossing flavors. We had that happen in a take out place where all the coke and sprite tasted like Dr. Pepper. They had to readjust the valves.

Funny thing is my daughter loves to mix orange, coke and sprite together -- so she probably would have liked it LOL

Thanks for the replies everyone! It's good to know that I'm not completely crazy. :rotfl2: By the way, this was the Fantasy, & we just got back on Saturday.

mjosburn, my family and I were on that Fantasy eastern cruise June 14-21 and that was not the way coke should taste. I talked with someone at Cabana's when we went on board and he brought out the box of coke syrup to show me the coke label on it. I said that was fine but it was not mixed correctly coming out of the dispenser (we tried several dispensers and the coke did not taste right on any of them). He said it is just a straight tube from the coke box to the dispenser and it does not get mixed with anything. I knew that was incorrect so I did not pursue it with him any further. I called Disney Cruise Line reservations last night to see who I can voice my concerns with and they gave me an email address to send to. We talked to a few people on that cruise and they all agreed it did not taste good at all.

Didn't notice this on the Dream last May. Could have been because mine were only half Coke with the other half being RUM. :cool1: Now you know why the Rum is always gone.:rotfl2:

Noticed this on the Fantasy too...to me it tasted slightly of bubble gum! Main dining room Coke was ok....self serve was all weird. Cut down on the amount of Coke I drank, but unfortunately increased the amount of beer I drank.

Geez, I hope we don't have to bring our own sodas onboard. The coke luxury is one of the best perks on Disney. I like a good coke- - but if it tastes that weird, I'll pass. We are sailing on the Fantasy in December. Hope more people make a statement about this to Disney and they resolve it!

Do they have the old fountains, where each flavor has it's own dispenser nozzle? Or do they have those horrible Freestyle machines where every one of the possible 300 flavor combos comes out of the same nozzle?

They have the old style separate nozzles.:thumbsup2

I wonder what made it taste like that. Did you email anyone? If it would help, I can email also.

Wish Disney would get the Coke machines that RCCL has ! We were on the Oasis last year and they were great ! You had to buy a soda card to use them but I didn't mind. :thumbsup2

I've figured out the Freestyle machine. Let it run for a few seconds before you put your cup under the dispenser. That should flush out all of the previous flavors from the nozzle.

And if everyone did that, wouldn't it waste a bunch of Coke, raising costs?

I'm not a fan of a spigot that has different products dispensed through it. I like the separate spigots that DCL does.

Folks, soft drinks will always taste different. The formula for the syrup is always the same, and assuming the CO and water mix is the corresponding one, the water will always taste different unless you use distilled water.

Also, the container will led to some taste. Drinking from a 20oz bottle or a 16 oz can or a glass from a 2L, or a machine will taste very differently.

Even then, some formulas are actually different. On Mexico and few places you will get real sugar cane instead of high fructose syrup.

I drink Coke Zero and glad DCL put that on board!

They have Coke Zero now? How long have they had it?

Slightly off topic- but I had an issue with the water on my last cruise. Never bothered me on my previous 2 cruises - but this trip it really tasted odd. Think I will get the bottled water package next trip.
