Coins for pressed pennies in luggage or carryon?

Not sure if this is where I should ask this, but thought I'd give it a try.

Where's the best place for the coins for pressed pennies? Don't really want to check it (it's almost $60 and I have a feeling it could mysteriously vanish). I know not to put it in the M&M tube (someone says it looks like an explosive when x-rayed), but in a clear baggie would it be okay in the carry on? Or will I get stopped and searched each time? I'm sure MCO sees these all the time, but my little airport and ATL probably don't.

So what do you all think? In carry on in a baggie?

Thanks!
Kate

Only 6 more nights!! :cheer2:

I don't think you will have a problem in ATL either. Keep it in your carry on if you want to see the coins at the end of your trip.

Just be sure you remember they are there, in your carryon!! I forgot all about mine, they had settled to the bottom over to a side. Got to that scanner and they went nuts trying to figure out what that cylinder was!!! The people behind me in the line were not happy with me. Man, did I feel foolish when I finally had to empty my carryon bag and those rolls of quarters and pennies plopped out!!!

Baggie in carryon is best. Be aware that there is a good chance your bag will be searched. We get the bag searched whenever we carry on smashing coins or trading pins, but they've always told us it was because the machine couldn't see past all that metal, so they needed to physically look. It's never taken more than a minute - they look under the metal, do the swab thing, and we're off. Because they're only looking at one thing, they don't need to go through the whole bag.

We had no problem on the trip down, but the bag was searched at MCO.

We had a large amount because we had collected all of the quarters, and they're not as easy to recognize when pressed. Plus I had put them in the bag with the cameras, gameboys, chargers, etc.

I put them in a baggie in the front pocket of my carry on. Should I take half a second and take them out (putting them in the pocket bowl thing) before placing my carry on on the belt? That way I wouldn't have to wait (or hold up the line) being searched? Good idea or waste?

This is great advise! My other question would be....does the front desk at any of the resorts make change for quarters? They can get heavy to carry...
I would bring the pennies, but wonder if this is an option if you are just getting a few....??

After my coin debacle in my carryon, I now put my coins, both quarters and pennies, in one smallish zip-loc bag, inside the large zip-loc bag that holds all our electronics, cell phones, cameras..that sort of thing. Yes, I do realize that those things don't have to put through by themselves, but it just makes it easier for me to do it this way. Then, when we get to the gate each piece goes to the person it belongs to.

That happened to me last October! I couldn't figure out WHAT they were looking for. :scratchin Poor guy had to completely unpack my carry on. LOL Then the MnM Mini's tube appeared near the bottom. OH YEAH!! That's what's in there!

I had the same fiasco a few years ago! I can laugh about it now, but back then, sheesh! Completely embarrassing watching them unpack my carefully packed back in front of everyone (which took me forever to repack)! I just kept apologizing over and over to the others in line because I had no clue what they were looking for. When I finally got up the courage to ask, she told me there was a mass of metal on the x-ray. I was so relieved I started laughing (but they didn't think it was as funny as I apparently did). I tried to tell her what it was, but all she said was "Ma'am, please step back". I was completely terrified that I was gonna get carted away for a bag of money! They probably got their laugh watching me walk through the terminal with an opened carry-on with bags of toilettries and like falling out all over the place! Now I just keep them in a ziplock and pull them out right before boarding.

I do the same with the pins I buy at WDW, keep them all in a bag and pull it out right before going through the scanner.

Glad to hear you can still find humor in this! I know I can. Especially since I got stopped at the same time due to a full-sized pair of scissors (which, by the way, made it all the way to Florida, and were only discovered on the way back...security is MUCH tougher now).

$60 dollars in pennies? You're planning on getting 6,000 pressed pennies?
